Why Harry Styles' Vogue Cover Has People Talking
Fans' thirst for Harry Styles knows no bounds. Styles shot to fame as one-fifth of the pop group One Direction, and the singer reached a new level of stardom when he launched his solo music career in 2017 with his self-titled solo album. Styles has become known for his fashion choices and unique style. He has donned everything from a string of pearls to obscenely flared trousers, even freeing the nipple while wearing a frilly see-through top to the 2019 Met Gala. While the "Watermelon Sugar" singer has been featured on countless magazine covers, his appearance on the cover of the December 2020 issue of Vogue made history. Styles became the magazine's first-ever solo male cover star, per US Weekly.
In the accompanying interview, Styles talked about his love for fashion, stating, "Clothes are there to have fun with and experiment with and play with." Growing up, he said that he idolized the "showmen," like Prince, David Bowie, Freddie Mercury, and Elton John. "As a kid it was completely mind-blowing. Now I'll put on something that feels really flamboyant, and I don't feel crazy wearing it, he said." While his appearance on the magazine cover made history, what he wore on the cover of Vogue is what has people talking. Keep scrolling to check out some of the reactions.
Harry Styles donned a Gucci ballgown on the cover of 'Vogue'
Rocking a floor-length Gucci gown, tuxedo jacket and blowing a balloon, Harry Styles made quite the splash with his first cover for Vogue. In the accompanying interview, Styles noted that the lines between men and women's clothes are blurring away. He told the magazine, "When you take away 'There's clothes for men and there's clothes for women,' once you remove any barriers, obviously you open up the arena in which you can play." When shopping, Styles finds himself "looking at the women's clothes thinking they're amazing."
It's not surprising that fans have expressed their delight and approval of Styles gracing the cover of Vogue and what he's wearing in the accompanying photos. One fan tweeted some ultimate praise, writing, "i would like to thank not only god but also jesus, vogue, photographer tyler mitchell, his mother, author hamish bowles, the entire united kingdom, gucci, the universe, and al gore (the inventor of the internet) for letting my eyes see this today."
Another fan seemed to be overwhelmed by the photos, tweeting, "DUE TO PERSONAL REASONS I HAVE PASSED AWAY." While another person asked, "What's stopping men from dressing like this?" Harry was also lauded for breaking the rules by a commentator who wrote, "I cannot express how proud I am of him. Breaking stereotypes, ending toxic masculinity, being so kind your heart melts, standing up for what he feels is right; the list could go on. I love him more."
Will Harry Styles be able to top this? You can count on it.
