The Truth About Megan Thee Stallion And 50 Cent
Rappers 50 Cent and Megan Thee Stallion haven't collaborated as of yet. But the Houston emcee did receive a rare gift from 50 Cent when he apologized to her in July 2020. The apology came after Megan, unfortunately, became the target of one of 50's notorious social media attacks. The Queens rapper, born Curtis Jackson, had posted a meme that featured Meg's face photoshopped onto the character Ricky from the cult-classic film Boyz N Da Hood. The meme was a shot from the character's infamous death scene in a drive-by shooting.
"Damn I didn't think this s**t was real," 50 apologized in a since-deleted post on July 27, 2020. "It sounded so crazy @theestallion i'm glad your feeling better and I hope you can accept my apology," he told the rising star. "I posted a meme that was floating around," the Power star added. "I wouldn't have done that if i knew you was really hurt sorry." According to Billboard, 50's apology post also included Meg's video calling out the "fake a**" stories surrounding her shooting incident with rapper Tory Lanez. Here's a closer look.
Megan Thee Stallion speaks up for Black women
In July 2020, Megan Thee Stallion was the victim of a shooting allegedly by Tory Lanez. According to the "Savage" rapper, Lanez shot at her feet and injured her after the two had been arguing inside of a car. The Hollywood Hills shooting has been followed up by mixed claims between Megan and Lanez. While Megan accuses the Toronto rapper of shooting her, the "Say It" crooner denied the allegations in video responses and his DAYSTAR album.
During Meg's Saturday Night Live debut in October 2020, she talked about the need to "protect our Black women." She followed that up with a New York Times op-ed titled "Why I Speak Up for Black Women." Her message is, in part, a response to criticism she has received and claims that she fabricated her shooting allegations against Lanez. So, though 50 Cent likely meant no harm when he shared the insensitive meme, he was mindful of the damage it caused and worked to reverse it.
Now, we'll see if the two ever make music together or if 50 gives Meg a guest role on Power Book II.
