The Truth About Beyoncé's Last-Minute Presidential Endorsement
Celebrities are coming out in full force to endorse their preferred presidential candidate in the 2020 election.
Democratic candidate former Vice President Joe Biden has had plenty of star power backing his campaign, with Lady Gaga performing her 2011 hit "You and I" at a rally in Pennsylvania, according to Us Weekly. Chrissy Teigen made her first public appearance since the loss of her third pregnancy, joining husband John Legend on stage in support of VP Biden, as per TODAY. Taylor Swift also advocated for the Biden/Harris ticket. The Democratic National Convention was also hosted by actresses Eva Longoria, Kerry Washington, Tracee Ellis Ross, and Julia Louis-Dreyfus.
On the opposite side, singer Kid Rock headlined a rally in Michigan for President Donald Trump, and even showed up at the third presidential debate in support of the Republican candidate.
Now candidates are watching out for the Beyhive, as Beyoncé has officially entered the 2020 election chat.
Beyoncé encouraged Texans to vote
On Nov. 2, 2020, one day before the election, Beyoncé took to Instagram to tell her 155 million followers to vote. The singer posted a Boomerang of herself tipping her Fendi hat with a matching top and a "I Voted" sticker.
The Lemonade artist's post was an endorsement for Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden, as Queen B wore a COVID-safe mask that read "BIDEN HARRIS". The Instagram was captioned, "Come thru, Texas!" amid reports of the traditionally Republican state on the verge of turning blue in the 2020 election, as reported by Newsweek.
While Bey's endorsement was certainly last-minute, given the Boomerang was posted just one day prior to Election Day, the Beyhive is accustomed to the Black Is King artist being late to the game in political conversations. In 2018, Texans were disappointed the Houston native showed support for Senate hopeful Democrat Beto O'Rourke at the very last minute in his 2018 election, via Page Six.
Beyoncé's political timing may not always be perfect, but the singer does make a point to use her star power to encourage U.S. citizens to vote in major elections, creating an info guide on her website on all things voting.
