Why Jeannie Mai Is Dropping Out Of Dancing With The Stars
TV host Jeannie Mai is dropping out of Dancing With the Stars early after being hospitalized with epiglottis, a potentially life-threatening inflammatory condition that can cause swelling and block airflow to the lungs, according to the Mayo Clinic (via ABC News).
"My doctors discovered a health concern with my throat which requires immediate attention and surgery," Mai said in a statement to Good Morning America on Nov. 2, 2020. "I am heartbroken that my DWTS journey has to end here. I have pushed myself to new limits physically and mentally, and I am so proud of how far we've come."
Mai was paired with professional dancer Brandon Armstrong for the competition reality show. The duo escaped last week's elimination after judge Carrie Ann Inaba voted in favor of keeping The Real host in the competition. Following her decision to leave the show, only one contestant will be eliminated during this week's program. Keep scrolling for more details about Mai's departure from Dancing With the Stars.
Jeannie Mai's fans are sad to see her go
Shortly after Jeannie Mai announced she would be leaving Dancing With the Stars due to health reasons, the show issued a statement, sending the former How Do I Look? host well-wishes. "Jeannie has inspired us, along with millions of fans, with her energy and dedication. We wish her a full and speedy recovery," the show's official statement read (via ABC News). "Since Jeannie had to withdraw from the competition, tonight's show will feature the eight remaining couples and a single elimination."
Mai's partner Brandon Armstrong commented on her departure in a video message on Good Morning America. "Guys, we are devastated by the news that we're gonna have to cut this season short," the professional dancer said in the clip. "But Jeannie's health does come first. Thank you to all the fans that have helped get us this far and we are praying for a speedy recovery from Jeannie."
The fashion guru's fans are also sad to see her go. "Wow I feel so bad for @jeanniemai. She was a joy to watch on #dwts. You will be missed!" one Twitter user shared after hearing the news. "Thank you for being an incredible contestant and bringing so much joy to the show your journey was fun to watch and so bummed to see you go," another user wrote. "Wishing you a speedy and nice recovery @jeanniemai." As are we!
