The Truth About Jeannie Mai And Ex Freddy Harteis' Marriage
Long before Jeannie Mai "found [her] equal" in rapper Jeezy, she was married to Freddy Harteis. The Real co-host has used her talk show platform to speak candidly about her 2018 divorce from Harteis. The couple was married for 10 years before announcing their split in October 2017, per People. Prior to their split, Mai was open about their differing views on having children. While Harteis was anxiously awaiting the chance for them to grow their family, Mai was focused on her career and had no desire to have children.
During a taping of The Real in February 2018, Mai revealed that her decision not to have children played a significant part in the couple calling it quits. "When you physically see how a man is with a child and if the man really desires to be a father, and you know that you are that block between that happening, you just don't feel right about yourself every single day," she shared.
Did Freddy Harteis cheat on Jeannie Mai?
In October 2018, a year after news broke about Jeannie Mai's divorce from Freddy Harteis, the ladies of The Real sat down for an interview on The Breakfast Club. During the interview, Mai seemingly hinted at possible infidelity on Harteis' part. Just six months after word of their separation hit the media, it was revealed that Harteis was expecting a child with his new girlfriend, Linsey Toole, per People. When Angela Yee asked Mai about the timeline, Mai didn't shy away from stating the facts.
"And interestingly with somebody [that], before we divorced, they were already [expecting]" Mai declared. "And you know what's funny, I was never really the type to really sit there and actually calculate and do math ... but then, our Real fam comes in and goes, 'Wait, when you announce you met this person at this time and now you're together having the baby at this time, Jeannie just came out with you guys getting divorced at this time ...' that's funny!"
Though, these days, she is happily engaged and ready to "submit" herself to Jeezy, in an April 2020 episode of The Real, Mai talked about how hard her divorce experience was. "The divorce hurt," Mai shared. "People change. People behave in ways that you didn't expect it. It makes you completely not able to trust anybody after that." That being said, it certainly seems like Mai has found someone she can lean on in Jeezy.
