What Candice Accola Has Been Up To Since Vampire Diaries
The Vampire Diaries premiered over a decade ago and came to an end in 2017 after eight seasons on The CW, according to IMDb. The hit series made big names out of many of its stars, including Nina Dobrev, Ian Somerhalder, Paul Wesley, and of course, Candice Accola King, who starred as the lovable Caroline Forbes. The character was first introduced in TVD's first season and quickly became a fan-favorite because of her quick wit, resilience, and badass-ness.
As Bustle also pointed out, Caroline never let a man control her, always valued her friendships and looked out for the people she loved, and wasn't afraid to speak the hard truths. In other words, she was one of the best characters on the show, and her story arc from an innocent girl to a strong woman did not go unnoticed. Accola King's portrayal even went on to win her two Teen Choice Awards in 2012 and 2014 in the "Scene Stealer Female" category.
But what has Accola King been up to since TVD ended? Keep scrolling to read about her growing family and how she brought Caroline back to life.
Candice Accola starred in a 'TVD' spinoff
Even though fans said goodbye to Caroline Forbes on The Vampire Diaries, Candice Accola King reprised her role on The Originals. She appeared on the TVD spinoff as a recurring character, as per IMDb, which gave Klaroline fans some closure. For years, fans wanted to see Caroline and the character Klaus Mikaelson (played by Joseph Morgan) get together and her appearance on the show's fifth and final season gave them the reunion they'd been waiting for.
"[TVD creator] Julie Plec always had a very clear idea of what she wanted for Caroline and Klaus together," Accola King told NKD Mag, as per Just Jared Jr., in 2018. "It wasn't exactly always in line with what the fans wanted for those characters." The actress added, "[Plec] wrote very important moments that she wanted for those characters, but I think she also gave a lot to the fans and what they wanted to see."
Other than The Originals, Accola King also went on to appear in an episode of The Orville, land a role in the movie After We Collided, and launch a podcast called Directionally Challenged with her former TVD co-star Kayla Ewell in 2019.
Candice Accola's family keeps growing
Candice Accola King's family has grown since her time on The Vampire Diaries. After welcoming her first child — a baby girl named Florence May — in 2016, the actress announced she was expecting another baby in August 2020. "Something I have not shared yet on this podcast is that I'm actually pregnant," she said, as per People, during an episode on her podcast Directionally Challenged. "I've got a bun in the oven." Accola King added, "I'm a little over five months, so it's been the entirety of the whole quarantine experience and everything that 2020 has brought us this year and it's been a journey to say the least."
Accola King married husband Joe King in 2014 in a romantic wedding at the Montegut House in New Orleans, according to People. The guest list included many of her TVD cast members, including Kayla Ewell (who served as a bridesmaid), Nina Dobrev, Michael Trevino, Kat Graham, Claire Holt, and Paul Wesley. The Fray guitarist popped the question in May 2013, two years after the couple first met at a Super Bowl event in February 2011.
It turns out, they went on their first date all thanks to Accola King's co-star Dobrev. Accola King told People back in 2013, "I was too chicken to give him my number, so Nina did." And the rest is history!
