The Real Reason Sam Smith Got Kicked Off A Dating App
Singer-songwriter Sam Smith gave fans the 4-1-1 on their dating life during an appearance on Andy Cohen's Watch What Happens Live on Oct. 15, 2020. When the star was asked by a fan if they are still single, and what dating is like during the global pandemic, the artist, based in the U.K., reassured fans they are "still single."
"I'm on the frontline with all the single people still and it's been difficult ... I've gone on all the apps and stuff," Smith admitted. (That's right — you're "not the only one" who is still searching for true love.) According to People, the singer was rumored to be dating actor Brandon Flynn from 13 Reasons Why, and was spotted on a date with a French product and furniture designer Fraançois Rocci. However, with Smith's latest reveal that they, too, are struggling to date during the pandemic, it seems like none of those relationships stuck. Unfortunately for Smith, their time on one dating app was cut short, which probably has not helped their situation.
Sam Smith was accused of catfishing
In the episode of Watch What Happens Live, Bravo host Andy Cohen questioned singer Sam Smith further about their dating woes, asking if the singer took his advice and joined Tinder. The "Stay With Me" singer responded, saying, "I took your advice and I joined this dating site called Hinge in the U.K. and they chucked me off of it after one night 'cause they thought I was a catfish pretending to be me."
Cohen told Smith not to fret and that they were simply on the wrong app. "That same thing has happened to me on dating apps, but that's why I wanted you to join Tinder because I have someone who can get you on there and verify you," the Real Housewives producer assured Smith.
Dating app Hinge quickly took notice of their blunder with the "Diamonds" singer and quickly responded via Twitter, where they apologized for the mix-up. "Sorry @SamSmith! We know you're too good at goodbyes but give us a second chance at finding you (+@Andy) someone special. We will verify your profile." So, for all the singles swiping away, be on the lookout for the "Latch" singer. Because once they are verified, you won't have to wonder if you're "Dancing with a Stranger" any longer.
