Inside John Cena's Secret Wedding To Shay Shariatzadeh
For years, WWE fans and Total Bellas viewers watched as John Cena told Nikki Bella he never wanted to get married. However, he was previously married to his high school sweetheart Elizabeth Huberdeau.
Cena and Bella eventually got engaged, broke up, and got back together, before breaking up again. She's moved on, having a baby boy with her fiancé Artem Chigvintsev, her former partner from Dancing With the Stars. Cena moved on, too, getting into a new relationship with Shay Shariatzadeh in March 2019. She's a product manager for a tech company based in Vancouver. She is a Canadian citizen, who was born in Iran.
Now, Shariatzadeh and Cena are husband and wife, having secretly tied the knot in a very low key ceremony, which was first reported by PWInsider. TMZ claimed that the couple got engaged privately, filing for a marriage certificate in Florida early in October 2020. According to official documents obtained by TMZ, they tied the knot on Oct. 12, 2020 in Tampa, Fla.
At the time of this writing, the couple hasn't commented on their recent union.
John Cena and Shay Shariatzadeh's romance moved quickly
WWE Superstar John Cena was first linked to Shay Shariatzadeh back in March 2019. Soon after, they made their romance red carpet official at the Playing With Fire premiere in October 2019. At the time, Cena told ET, "It's a wonderful day for a movie premiere and I got a beautiful date." The wrestler also teased, "What's truly special about this one is that, no matter what projects I'm involved in the future, this one will always have a special meaning because I got to film a special project and meet someone special." When pressed for just a single detail about the relationship, Cena's Playing With Fire co-star Keegan-Michael Key would only reveal that Cena told him that she caught his eye at a restaurant when he spotted her in "a group of young ladies" and "couldn't take [his] eyes off her."
Since then, Cena and Shariatzadeh have been very low key, which isn't surprising considering his very public romance with Nikki Bella. During a 2019 appearance on Watch What Happens Live (via E!), Cena said, "My personal business will stay my personal business." He also remarked, "Through trial and error, we find out what we value and what we believe in and I really value being able to have moments that are mine," which may or may not be a reference to his time with Bella.
Well, minus the whole public marriage records thing, Cena has managed to keep his relationship with Shariatzadeh private.
