Fans Are Confused About Cardi B And Offset's Steamy Weekend. Experts Explain
Cardi B and Offset's relationship has been a roller coaster to watch, ever since the beginning. The rapper couple was first spotted on a date at the 2017 superbowl, and just months later, Offset proposed to Cardi B on stage at Philadelphia's Power 99 Powerhouse concert. After months of saying they were too busy to plan a wedding and a surprise pregnancy announcement, TMZ reported they'd secretly tied the knot before the on-stage proposal.
However, there were endless rumors of infidelity and long-distance issues, and a year after they wed, Cardi B announced she and Offset were over. They were able to rekindle their romance — but then, in September 2020, Cardi B filed for divorce from Offset. She stated in the legal documents (obtained by E! News) that "there are no prospects for a reconciliation."
Just when we thought the rollercoaster ride was over, it has us going through another loop. Fans are confused about Cardi B and Offset's steamy weekend spent celebrating Cardi B's 28th birthday in Las Vegas together, which occurred less than a month after the divorce filing. So, why would Cardi B and Offset enjoy such a PDA-packed weekend together? Are they healing their broken bond? Were they just having fun? Relationship experts Jaime Bronstein, LCSW, and Dr. Venus Nicolino weighed in on the situation exclusively to Nicki Swift.
Cardi B and Offset might be lonely
When two people break up, there is a huge adjustment period from always having someone by your side to being romantically by yourself. It is possible that Cardi B and Offset might be holding onto what they had, according to Jaime Bronstein, LCSW, a relationship expert, coach, author, and host of Love Talk Live.
"Most people would prefer to be in a relationship than not in one," Bronstein told Nicki Swift. "After being in a relationship, it can feel lonely not having that hand to hold, those arms to be held by, and that body to cuddle up to. Having someone in your life is all well and good, and it feels better than being alone when it is a healthy relationship."
Cardi B may like the security of spending time with Offset, even if the relationship wasn't always healthy. After the public proposal stint, the "Bodak Yellow" rapper reacted to the engagement to Time magazine: "I'm excited because I feel like I'm locked in. He's locked in."
Offset's gifts might be working on Cardi B
Cardi B and Offset have been on this ride before. The first time Cardi B announced their split in 2018, Offset posted a "birthday wish" apology video on Instagram, then bombarded Cardi B during her set at the Rolling Loud Festival to plead his case. A week later, the two were photographed together in Puerto Rico, and they ultimately made up.
Now, it seems Offset is pulling out all the tricks up his sleeve once again. He spent the whole weekend in Vegas showering Cardi B with affection and gifts. He reportedly gave her a Rolls Royce truck, which included a personalized $8,000 car seat for their daughter, Kulture. He also gifted her an entire billboard that was from Kulture.
Relationship expert Jaime Bronstein, LCSW told Nicki Swift this is a "classic move" by Offset. "Women like to feel special, cared for, and loved, so when a man makes grand gestures, it feels good," she explained. However, this is not a solid fix for a relationship, she adds. "The problem occurs when things get back to normal, and the glitz and excitement of the gifts die down because whatever problems were there before will still be there; they didn't just disappear."
Cardi B might be in it for the lust
As we all know, Cardi B doesn't hold anything back. The "I Like It" rapper got quite graphic about her thirst for sex with Offset while they were separated in December 2018. As she was sipping her coffee, she shamelessly talked about how much she missed her husband's manhood on Instagram Live, per TMZ. "I miss it... a lot... inside of me... demolishing me," she complained.
It wouldn't be surprising, then, that Cardi B is hanging out with Offset to fulfill her sexual needs. Things reportedly got pretty dirty on the dance floor in Vegas, with Offset posting videos of his wife grinding on him.
Relationship expert and best-selling author of Bad Advice, Dr. Venus Nicolino, told Nicki Swift this behavior would not be surprising. "Most people go back to their ex for the sex. It's pretty damn hard to argue with your tongues tied together. That ceasefire is just temporary though," Dr. V warned. "Remember, you broke up for a reason. Ex sex can provide intimacy that in the moment feels safe... but only until the next toxic fight.
Cardi B and Offset might not really be over
Cardi B and Offset are known for their on-again, off-again marriage, and relationship expert Dr. Venus Nicolino told Nicki Swift she isn't convinced the chapter has officially closed on the two. "Cardi B's reason for filing for divorce wasn't extreme," she pointed out.
Cardi B took to her Instagram story to clarify the reasons behind her divorce shortly after filing the papers, per TMZ. "The reason for my divorce is not because of none of that s**t that ever happened before. It's not because of cheating... I just got tired of f***ing arguing," she divulged. According to Dr. V, the arguing is a "fixable problem." She said, "It's very possible that their efforts are simply... working."
Plus, Cardi B has said she is all for mending relationships, which may foreshadow a future reconciliation. In an interview with Vogue, the "WAP" singer opened up about forgiveness. "Everybody has issues. I believe in forgiveness. I prayed on it. Me and my husband, we prayed on it... And we just came to an understanding like, 'bro, it's really us against the world.' He has my back for everything, I have his back for everything," she stated.
Cardi B and Offset also share daughter Kulture, which will always keep them connected. "The hopes of preserving your family unit can often be enough to offset (no pun intended) your desire to separate," Dr. V told Nicki Swift. But only time will tell if their marriage will truly recover.
