Inside Giuliana Rancic's Life Today
Longtime E! News anchor Giuliana Rancic used to be all over the E! network, but her professional life is looking quite a bit different nowadays.
After her son Duke, the center of her world, was born via surrogate in 2012, Rancic ended up flying back and forth between her family in Chicago and her entertainment news set in L.A. When it was announced that E! News would be moving to the East Coast in 2019, Rancic realized it was truly time to make a change. "The decision for E! News was one that really came from wanting to be with family more, and focusing and spending as much time as possible with family," she revealed to People. Though fame has given her almost everything she could have ever wanted, family will always come first.
However, that isn't to say that Rancic has stepped out of the spotlight entirely. Between running an array of different businesses to enjoying being a mom, she's actually been really busy. As she said in an Instagram post, "flexibility is paramount," and the first step to finding extra time to focus on both Duke and her passion projects was to leave E! News behind. What exactly is Giuliana Rancic up to today? Here's an inside look at her life.
The Windy City has won Giuliana Rancic's heart
With her husband, Bill Rancic, being from Chicago, it's no wonder that Giuliana Rancic decided to plant roots in the Midwest. It all began in 2015 when the Rancics decided it was time to stop moving their little one back and forth from L.A.— especially once he was about to start school. "We want him to have a connection with schoolmates and not be going from city to city," Giuliana told People at the time. So, it seemed essential that they leave the West Coast.
While it might've been tough to be away from the glitz and glamour of Hollywood, family always comes first for her. After all, everything changes when you have a child. "[Bill and I] love that sense of community," she said in aforementioned People story. "And I have loved Chicago ever since we started dating." The move was a fresh start for the Rancic family, and they've been busy building up their businesses there ever since.
Giuliana Rancic dishes it up in the restaurant world
Giuliana Rancic moved from the red carpet into the restaurant business. However, entertainment has always been her inspiration. It was her reality television show — and her mother — that prompted her move into a new industry.
When her series Giuliana and Bill hit television screens in 2009, fans went crazy over Rancic's Italian mother, Mama DePandi, making all sorts of delicious foods. "And then people started tweeting, and stopping us in the street saying, you guys should open a Mama DePandi's!" she explained to OpenTable. Apparently, it didn't sound like a bad idea.
The plan was to open a small restaurant in Chicago centered around the Italian entrees she enjoyed while growing up. Investors, however, had an entirely different idea. "I don't think they realized that the restaurant we had in mind was a 40-seat one and the one they had in mind was 10,000 square feet," she explained. From there, the RPM eatery empire was born. Since 2012, Bill and Giuliana Rancic have expanded across the Windy City and even into Washington D.C., according to the RPM website.
Between good eats and a passion for entrepreneurship, anything seems possible for the two. What's more, Bill's business acuity (don't forget, he won The Apprentice) sure has come in handy. "Being married to Bill certainly changed my perspective of business," she admitted to the Premiere Speakers Bureau. Clearly, their teamwork has panned out.
Giuliana Rancic remains cancer-free
In 2011, Giuliana Rancic was sitting through a mammogram when she was given horrible news that nobody wants to hear: She had breast cancer. "I never in my wildest dreams expected anything would be wrong," she told the Today show. She was only 36 years old and there was no history of breast cancer in her family. It was a shocking discovery that shook her world.
Rancic went through a double mastectomy before coming back to E! cancer-free, and her platform seemed like the perfect place to shine the spotlight on her own inspiring story. "When you finally have that moment to surface and think about what you went through you realize you can help other people who are in that stage," she told Splash.
Sitting in her makeup chair, Rancic felt better than ever and wanted other women to feel the same way. So, she launched an initiative called FAB-U-WISH. Rancic stays busy by granting wishes for women all over the world, getting them all glammed up and giving them their "red carpet moment." "There's no greater joy than granting someone's wish and making that sort of difference in someone's life," she told Prevention.
'Eco-luxe' skincare is one of Giuliana Rancic's passions
Believe it or not, Giuliana Rancic is aging just like everybody else— except she has to do it on air in front of the whole world. When she hit her 40s, she made some adjustments to her skincare regime. "I wanted to use clean skincare because I had been diagnosed with breast cancer," she explained to the Premiere Speakers Bureau. "And it really changed what I was putting on my skin and what I was putting in my body." Unfortunately, Rancic was unable to find exactly what she was looking for.
As if she was not busy enough with all of her other endeavors, in 2018, Rancic decided to release a new line of skincare called Fountain of Truth. From correcting fine lines to waving goodbye to wrinkles, her line of cleansers, creams, masks, and more are developed without harsh products. "I wanted to make sure that I created an inclusive line that provided clean, effective and gentle skincare solutions for people of all ages and ethnicities," Rancic explained to Spa & Beauty Today. The end result is, as Rancic put it, an "eco-luxe beauty line."
Giuliana Rancic has more time to hang out with son Duke
"Bill and I do a lot of really cool things as adults ... a lot of things we love," Giuliana Rancic explained to Splash. "But there is nothing that even comes close to the joy we get from our son and our family together." That joy inspired a major career move. As she told People in 2019, her wish to spend more quality time with her son and husband played a big part in why she left her post at E! News.
With so much of her life being shown in the spotlight, taking a step back from television was more essential than ever when adorable little Duke came along. "I don't know if I would have wanted to show cameras at his preschool or him going through certain milestones," Rancic explained to HuffPost. Though her life is an open book on air, "it's our son," she said. "And so, until he has a say, we want to just protect him."
Creating a family wasn't ever easy for the Rancics either. The two of them went through rounds of IVF and fertility struggles before turning to a surrogate to give them their son. Now that Rancic a bit more out of the spotlight, she can cherish even more moments with him. "Our life was great before Duke but it's so much fuller now," she gushed to the Premiere Speakers Bureau.
Fashion Police officer Giuliana Rancic has a clothing line
Though Fashion Police is a thing of Giuliana Rancic's past, fashion is still front and center in her future— right behind her family, of course.
However, finding her way into the fashion industry wasn't so easy for this star. Rancic had to postpone the launch of her clothing line for a year after she was diagnosed with breast cancer. Though the pieces in the collection were ultimately years in the making, its release ended up aligning right along with little Duke's arrival in 2012. "It was a long journey, but I couldn't be more excited to show it to the world!" the busy new mom told Today's Parent.
It ended up being the perfect time for her new line too. G by Giuliana had the most successful debut on the Home Shopping Network that year, according to GiulianaRancic.com. Today, Rancic's line includes the perfect puffer jacket, everyday jeans, and laid-back leggings that are a part of her 12 collections each year (via Splash). "It's full of essential staples that every woman needs in their closet!" she said. Meanwhile, we will be busy shopping.
Lake time's been treating Giuliana Rancic right
Leaving E! News and its early morning shoots has given Giuliana Rancic a lot more time to see her family and, as she told People, allowed her to "give 100 percent to our restaurants and our other businesses — to be doing things that we're really passionate about."
Don't worry, it's not all about work for Rancic. She and her family spend a lot of time unwinding at their vacation home in Idaho, too. When speaking with Architectural Digest about their lakeside abode, Rancic said, "We are truly creating beautiful memories as a family."
In fact, the Rancic family has been spending so much time out on the water that in 2018, they became official ambassadors for Malibu Boats. Rancic tags the company quite often on her Instagram account, which has 2.6 million followers. Even though she's not on E! News, everyone still wants to know what she's up to. You are reading this article, after all, right?
Giuliana Rancic reels in money from real estate
Like her business-savvy husband, Bill Rancic, Giuliana Rancic has been raking in some serious money through their home renovations. In fact, these flips have made them filthy rich. They walk away with a few million dollars in their pocket each time— and it's not exactly like they need it. After all, the two of them have a total net worth of $30 million today, according to Celebrity Net Worth.
They last let the world know of their most recent renovation in 2019, when they were on flip number twelve out on the West Coast. They bought the property, located in the Los Angeles neighborhood of Brentwood Park, for a staggering $7.6 million (via Chicago Tribune). The Rancics certainly know how to renovate, too. The year beforehand, they listed their freshly redone Chicago home for $6.8 million. The home included heated floors and a movie room with cashmere-lined walls. "It's just beautifully designed and executed," their listing agent, Laura Rubin Dresner, told Greenwich Time. No kidding!
When it comes to their restaurants, all this experience has made them ready to renovate them themselves too. "I love design," Rancic admitted to OpenTable. "So that's what I'm able to bring to the table." Pun intended? We'd forkin' bet on it.
Giuliana Rancic's home decor line has hit the HSN shelves
Just when you think Giuliana Rancic has thrown her hat in every ring possible, she finds another hat and another ring. At the beginning of 2020, Rancic decided to focus on her own home and created a line of interior decor and furniture. She turned to the perfect partner to do so: her own interior designer, Lonni Paul. "I love, love, love the way she makes the home feel warm and inviting but still incredibly stylish," Rancic gushed to WWD. "She's very good at mixing high and low pieces." Attaining affordability for all is the most important thing for Rancic.
Their line, August & Leo, was released on the Home Shopping Network during the coronavirus pandemic. During this unprecedented time, not only has home decor sold like hotcakes, but virtual shopping is on the rise. "HSN allows us to introduce the collection to customers through their digital broadcast channels, which provides a safe space for everyone," Rancic explained of the line's release. The downside, however, was that it was a completely new domain for her. "They're practicing safe social spacing, so there's no more in-studio guests. The real change for us is that we won't be in the studio."
If you've ever dreamed of having Rancic's high design for a low price, now's the time to get it.
Yes, Giuliana Rancic's still reporting on the red carpet
Even though Giuliana Rancic left E! News behind in 2019, the network still isn't entirely in her rearview. She's now able to find extra time with her family and follow her passion of interviewing famous people by occasionally attending events, reporting live from the red carpet. "It is nice having a little more flexibility," she admitted to People about her new gig.
Rancic, however, had fans frazzled when they didn't see Rancic during E!'s Emmy coverage in September 2020. Unfortunately, as she was about to board a plane to L.A., Rancic and her family discovered that they had tested positive for COVID-19. Even though it was tough missing her 20th year on the network, the high-risk cancer survivor explained on Instagram that "the health of those around me is always my first priority." So, the three had to stay home. A few weeks later, Rancic told E! that she and her family are "feeling good" and "thankful to be on the other side of this."
Fans will undoubtedly see Rancic on the red carpet again very soon. As she wrote in her pre-Emmys announcement, "I don't take missing an awards show lightly."
Giuliana Rancic has plans to expand her family
Yes, Giuliana Rancic has still been busy since leaving TV full-time, but this busy business woman still isn't planning on slowing down anytime soon. In an Instagram post explaining her decision to leave E! News at the end of 2019, Rancic revealed that there may just be another family member in their near future. "Nothing is more important than spending time with my family, which we are hoping to grow soon," she wrote, which had dedicated viewers everywhere very interested in what's happening at her home.
Whether it be by IVF or a second surrogate, the Rancics have admitted that they're open to all options. This celebrity couple has always been open with everyone about their struggles, so we assume that the news of expecting a second child won't be kept a secret.
When People followed up with her and her family following the post, Giuliana has made it obvious that she's enjoying her extra time away from E!. "I've just loved spending so much great quality time with Duke and Bill — it's really nice," she said. "And hopefully, like I said in my message, hopefully, we'll have some good news soon ... grow the family." Right along with their many businesses, of course. She doesn't seem to stop!
