The Real Reason 90 Day Fiance's Kalani Kicked Asuelu Out Of The House
Season 5 of 90 Day Fiancé: Happily Ever After? was one for the books. The season itself involved lots of drama, including breakups, fights, and a decent amount of plastic surgery. The real cherry on top, though, was the three-part reunion — aka the "Tell-All" — where all the drama boiled over. Oh, and the castmates screamed at each other over zoom (because 2020).
Here's what went down, ICYMI: Angela Deem announced her plans to go undergo massive weight loss and "skin tightening" surgery in the coming weeks, which was news to her husband, Michael. Jess Caroline surprised viewers and her ex, Colt Johnson, by announcing she got married after only being single for a few months. As for Kalani Faagata and Asuelu Pulaa? The Utah residents spent much of the season fighting, a tension which carried over into the Tell-All.
But before we get into the drama, let us refresh those who aren't avid 90 Day fans. This story began when Kalani traveled to Samoa (her dad is Samoan, BTW) for a vacation, where she met Samoan Asuelu, her first sexual partner. Kalani got pregnant with the couple's first child, and she gave birth to their son, Oliver, while Asuelu was still in Samoa. Asuelu eventually came to the U.S., and he married Kalani while she was pregnant with their second kid. But despite these happy milestones, the two have been at odds over everything from parenting differences to disputes with extended family. And during the reunion, Kalani disclosed that she had kicked Asuelu out of the house — we reveal why after the jump.
Kalani didn't feel safe with Asuelu
The saying goes, "two's company, three's a crowd," and Kalani Faagata and Asuelu Pulaa for sure felt crowded when Asuelu's mom kept butting into their relationship. Things got nasty when Kalani and Asuelu visited Asuelu's mother, Lesina, in Washington. While there, Lesina asked for a $1,000 loan from the couple. Kalani told her the couldn't spare that much, and the argument escalated from there. At one point, Kalani even got into a physical altercation with Asuelu's sister, per Showbiz Cheat Sheet. Making matters worse? Asuelu didn't step in to defend his wife, making Kalani question whether the marriage is worth saving.
Given all of the conflict, some fans were hardly surprised when it got revealed that Asuelu and Kalani were no longer living together. At the hight of the COVID-19 virus, Kalani became even more annoyed with Asuelu for not taking social distancing and other health precautions seriously. Asuelu refused to stop hanging out with his friends and volleyball team, which potentially put the rest of the family in danger, so as a last resort, Kalani bought him a one-way ticket back to his mom's house in Washington.
When the reunion aired, Kalani informed her castmates that Asuelu was living with her again, but he still wasn't being careful about social distancing or taking preventative actions. "Today, we are together, and we're living together, but we aren't anywhere near where we used to be when we were first together," she explained, according to Showbiz Cheat Sheet. "We're just in a really rocky place right now."
