Why Alexis Ren And Alan Bersten Couldn't Make It Work After DWTS
It's become common for Dancing With the Stars contestants and pros dancers to fall in love. Just look at Nikki Bella and Artem Chigvintsev or Shark Tank's Robert Herjavec and Kym Johnson, who both now have children with their respective partners. Season 27 in 2018 also gifted viewers with another cute couple — model Alexis Ren and dancing pro Alan Bersten. The young stars were paired up on the show and quickly struck up a relationship during the competition. (They even kissed during a November 2018 episode, according to Us Weekly, after the model opened up about her feelings for Bersten.)
After their time on DWTS came to an end (they finished in fourth place), Bersten revealed how the two planned to keep the spark alive. "Now we can be normal for a little while," he told Entertainment Tonight. "I don't have to teach her five hours a day every day, so we can just go hang out." He added, "We're really excited because now we can just hang and do whatever we want."
However, the romance was pretty short-lived. Keep scrolling to find out why Ren and Bersten couldn't make it their relationship work after DWTS.
Alexis Ren and Alan Bersten couldn't overcome long distance
Us Weekly reported the Alexis Ren and Alex Bersten broke up in December 2018 — just one month after the couple got eliminated from Dancing With the Stars. At the time, sources told the outlet long distance was one of the reasons they decided to call it quits. "She's in Japan working and he's going on tour in a couple of weeks, but they are still talking and still consider each other friends," the insider claimed. "They aren't in the same country for a while, which makes a relationship hard, but they are open to whatever the future might hold." (A few months later, Ren reportedly moved on with actor Noah Centineo.)
The Sports Illustrated model first hinted the pair had ended their romance when a fan asked her if she and Bersten were "done," as People noted. She replied to the comment, writing, "Feelings aren't black and white and neither is life. We're focused on our careers and growing as individuals. He's an amazing person and I'm grateful he came into my life. He's on his own journey and I respect that."
Despite the split, Ren revealed in October 2020 she and Bersten are on great terms. She told Entertainment Tonight, "We definitely have been in contact, just saying good things. He just texted me on my birthday. We're super good friends and everything's good energy. So yeah, the best outcome possible." All's well that ends well!
