Why Tarek El Moussa Isn't Inviting Christina Anstead To His Wedding
Flip or Flop stars Tarek El Moussa and Christina Anstead (then Christina El Moussa) split up in 2016. Despite some very public drama, the exes continued to film together and successfully co-parent their two children, Taylor and Brayden. Then, in 2018, Christina married fellow reality star Ant Anstead, who she later broke up from in September 2020. Tarek moved on too, dating Selling Sunset star Heather Rae Young. Tarek proposed to Heather in July 2020, and as of this writing, they are planning their wedding.
Despite the possibility of a real estate TV crossover, the wedding will not be on television. In September 2020, Tarek told Us Weekly, "We're thinking about not shooting the wedding — just 'cause, you know, it's such a special day." He said, "I mean, if there was a way to shoot it and act like [the cameras were] not there, I'm sure we would do it, but I don't know if that's a possibility. It's a real special day for us."
Tarek also shared that his two children will be a part of the ceremony. But will Christina get a wedding invitation? Heather discussed the possibility to ET Online, saying, "I'm new to all this, but as a woman, I just kind of felt like, 'What would I want being in her situation?' Here's what Heather and Tarek ultimately decided to do and why.
Tarek El Moussa's wedding has a "no exes" policy
In October 2020, Heather Rae Young and Tarek El Moussa revealed to ET Online whether Christina Anstead is attending the wedding. "No, no exes [will be] at the wedding," El Moussa declared. The real estate mogul also shared that there will not be TV cameras at the wedding, so that's perhaps why his Flip or Flop co-star will not get an invite. Interestingly enough, the couple filmed the proposal for El Moussa's other show, Flipping 101.
Describing the upcoming nuptials, Tarek said, "Small, less distractions, more intimate, better conversations with the people around us. You know, we just think smaller is better." Heather added that the wedding would be "just intimate, with our best friends and family," emphasizing, "We're gonna have to be strict with our list." During that same interview, the couple said that they hadn't spoken to Christina about their upcoming wedding. Heather remarked, "We have our own life and we respect her as their mom and we co-parent but we're a couple. We don't need to sit down with her and discuss that."
In August 2020, Tarek told Hollywood Life that he didn't tell Christina before he proposed to Heather, so it's not too surprising that he didn't discuss the wedding with his ex.
Heather Rae Young is focused on co-parenting
Heather Rae Young made it clear in August 2020 that Christina Anstead is not on her wedding guest list. Speaking before Christina announced her split from Ant Anstead, Heather told People, "We don't go to dinner with them [Christina and Ant], we don't have lunch with them... we have a very civil, great relationship with them for the kids — the kids are number one, that's the most important — but that's kind of where it stops." Heather laughed and said, "I don't think I would like to have his ex at my wedding."
Aside from mentioning the importance of "amazing food" at her upcoming wedding to Tarek El Moussa, Heather told Hollywood Life that she wants a wedding with "no drama." She hopes to have a "really magical, special day."
As for Christina, she told E! Online in August 2020, "I couldn't be happier for them. They're very happy." Although Christina won't appear at Heather and Tarek's wedding, it seems like the party of three are in a great groove regarding co-parenting Taylor and Brayden.
