Everything We Know About Nicki Minaj's Baby
Nicki Minaj gave birth to her first child on Sept. 30, 2020, according to People magazine. To paraphrase one of her lines in "Super Bass," "Yes [she] did, yes [she] did, somebody please tell him who the eff [she] is!" The rapper and her husband, Kenneth "Zoo" Petty, reportedly welcomed their baby in Los Angeles just a few weeks before their first wedding anniversary on Oct. 21, 2020.
Minaj first let her fans, the Barbz, in on her pregnancy in July 2020 — via, of course, an over-the-top, colorful Instagram photo shot by famed photographer and music video director David LaChappelle. (He's previously worked with everyone from Beyoncé to Paris Hilton to Britney Spears.)
In July 2020, per TMZ, Petty — a registered sex offender in California, according to the outlet — requested that his pre-trial release conditions be modified so he could be free to travel and be present for the birth of the baby at any given time (Petty previously had curfew hours). It worked: TMZ reported that the "Super Bass" rapper had her husband at her side as she gave birth.
Will Nicki Minaj's new mom status mean she will retire from music?
In 2019, just months after Grammy-nominated rapper Nicki Minaj tied the knot with husband Kenneth "Zoo" Petty, the "Starships" singer scared fans by announcing she was officially retiring from rap to focus on growing her family.
"I've decided to retire and have my family," Minaj wrote in a since-deleted tweet in September 2019 (via E! News). "I know you guys are happy now. To my fans, keep reppin me, do it til da death of me, in the box — cuz ain't nobody checkin me. Love you for LIFE." The rapper and former American Idol judge later apologized for the tweet, calling it "abrupt" and "insensitive," as per E!. She also let fans know she would dive deeper into her thoughts on her radio show, Queen Radio.
Since then, the rapper has been featured on Karol G's "Tusa," 6ix9ine's "TROLLZ," and went No. 1 with her feature on Doja Cat's "Say So" remix. So, not only has the beloved female rapper been working since her retirement announcement, she's also been crazy successful, too. This means that the question on the mind of Barbz everywhere is: Now that Minaj is a new mom, is this role a "Moment 4 Life" — without anymore music? Stay tuned...
