Brad Pitt Breaks His Silence On Divorce From Angelina Jolie
It sounds like Angelina Jolie broke Brad Pitt's heart.
The Oscar winner, 41, filed for divorce from Pitt, 52, on Sept. 19, 2016, breaking all of our hearts, too. The Fury (2015) actor released a statement on the dissolution of his marriage to People. "I am very saddened by this, but what matters most now is the well-being of our kids," he said. "I kindly ask the press to give them the space they deserve during this challenging time."
Jolie's attorney released a statement as well: "This decision was made for the health of the family. She will not be commenting at this time, and asks that the family be given their privacy during this difficult time."
As Nicki Swift previously reported, Jolie's decision to pull the plug on their marriage seems driven by Pitt's parenting of their six children: Maddox, 15, Pax, 12, Zahara, 11, Shiloh, 10, and twins Knox and Vivienne, 8. "[She was] extremely upset with his methods," a source told TMZ. "Her decision to file was based solely on his interaction with the children."
Those interactions may have been undermined by other habits. According to TMZ, Jolie is fed up with Pitt's alleged marijuana and alcohol use, as well as his "anger issues," and the effects of all of those potentially toxic elements on their kids.
"They always had disagreements when it came to disciplining the kids," a source told People. "With all the kids, it did tend to get chaotic many times." The insider said, "[Pitt] has always been stricter" and "wanted the kids to have more structure." The source added that Pitt "never used any kind of physical discipline," but could "get frustrated sometimes and yell at the kids." By comparison, "Angelina always had a more relaxed attitude when it came to the kids," the source said. "She definitely never yells."
An insider told People, "Both Brad and Angelina care very much about their kids and there is sadness on both sides." Another added, "The divorce is a complete shock. They have definitely spent more time apart this year, but it's still a shock. They just celebrated their wedding anniversary together."
