Inside Paris And Nicky Hilton's Relationship
Whether it's the Hemsworth brothers, the Olsen sisters or the Hadid sisters, Hollywood has brought out the best and worst of famous families. The Jacksons built a musical dynasty, the Kardashians became reality television royalty and the Williams sisters redefined tennis. What about the Hilton sisters? They're heiresses to the Hilton empire, business women and THE pop culture socialites.
"They live very colorful lives," the publisher of Hamptons magazine at the time, Jason Binn, said in 2000, at the height of Nicky and Paris Hilton's reign in the spotlight (via Vanity Fair). "They're little stars. They've become names. To them it's like a job. I believe they wake up every morning and say, O.K., where am I supposed to be tonight?"
In the early 2000s, Hollywood nightlife would often find Paris and Nicky at the forefront. During their early days in the spotlight, the socialites were so young that the paparazzi would yell things like, "Isn't it a school night?" according to Vanity Fair. At the time, some questioned a younger Nicky for following in Paris' footsteps as the party girl. The girls grew up in the Waldorf Towers in New York, sneaking into hotel events.
"They used to call Paris and I the Eloises of the Waldorf," Nicky said in a 2016 interview with W Magazine. But was Nicky trying to live up to her sister's lifestyle? If you look inside their sister relationship, you might find the answer.
Paris and Nicky Hilton used to fight over clothes
Aside from the millions of dollars and growing up in the limelight, Paris and Nicky Hilton are just your average sisters — kind of. Just two years apart, the sisters grew up with typical sibling fights, the same friend group and sharing outfits. In a 2000 interview with Vanity Fair, their mother, Kathy Hilton, revealed: "the girls didn't used to get along that well, and now they really love each other. They'll run up to each other's froom and say, 'Oh let me share that T-shirt or that hair gel.'"
At the time of the interview, Nicky and Paris were 16 and 19 years old, respectively. These days, it seems like nothing has really changed. In an interview with SheKnows in March 2020, Nicky shared just what Paris likes to steal from her closet to this day. "It was always about clothes," she said of what her and Paris would fight over as teens. "She was always going into my closet, and she still does. She takes all of my chargers."
Nicki dressed up as Paris for Halloween
Paris Hilton may be the one stealing chargers, but it was Nicky Hilton who, in little sister fashion, stole Paris' whole look. Think back to 2002, when America's socialite finally turned 21. Despite having already spent years seemingly defying typical nightlife age requirements, Paris "threw five different parties around the world over the course of the five nights" to celebrate the milestone, per Vogue. The breakout outfit from all of the festivities? A "slinky, silver chainmail dress that she wore with a thick matching choker" that would become an iconic piece of pop culture fashion.
In 2016, Kendall Jenner wore a replica of the Swarovski crystal dress, priced at just $9,000, for her own 21st birthday. Then, two years later, Nicky recreated her big sister's look, too. Not everyone has the option of going as their celebrity sibling for Halloween, but in 2018 Nicky Hilton did just that. The younger of the Hilton sisters wore Paris' exact 21st birthday look as her Halloween costume, captioning an Instagram post of the costume: "21 again tonight! PH vibes."
Nicky and Paris Hilton support each other through the up and downs of their love lives
Aside from sharing clothes (or stealing clothes), heiresses to the Hilton empire, Paris and Nicky Hilton, also apparently share dating advice. Considering the fact that their sibling relationship morphed into a friendship, it's no surprise that Paris was right by her sister's side for both of her marriages.
In 2004, Nicky said "I do" to NYC money manager Todd Meister in Las Vegas. Paris and friend Nicole Richie were in attendance. The middle of the night Vegas marriage (the ceremony took place at 2:30 am) didn't last past 2004, but a little over a decade later, Paris was by her sister's side again for her second marriage to James Rothschild.
When it came to Paris' split from ex-fiancé Chris Zylka in 2018, Nicky's advice for her sister was to find an older man. "I would like to see her with someone a little older than her, that she can learn from," the younger Hilton sister told Us Weekly back in June 2019.
Nicky Hilton sees similarities between her daughters
After marrying James Rothschild in 2015, Nicky Hilton went on to have two little girls of her own, Lily Grace and Teddy, in 2016 and 2017, respectively. Hilton's kids' sister dynamic reminds the heiress of her own relationship with sister Paris Hilton. "Yes, there's definitely an introvert and an extrovert sister," Nicky told Us Weekly in 2019 when asked if her daughters were mini versions of her and Paris. "And they get along so great — I love it. There's nothing stronger than a sister bond. So I love seeing it in my own children."
The question is: Who is the extrovert and who is the introvert between Paris and Nicki? Well, considering Paris' love of the limelight over the years, we have a slight hunch that The Simple Life star might be the extrovert of the family. "When you have a sister, it's like a built in best friend for life," Nicky told SheKnows in 2020. The sentiment is seemingly shared by older sister Paris, who shared an Instagram of the two in June 2020 captioned: "Besties for Life. Love you so much @NickyHilton."
