Inside Selma Blair And Reese Witherspoon's Relationship
Selma Blair and Reese Witherspoon's relationship spans decades, and it's clear these two actors have a ton of respect for each other. From Cruel Intentions to Legally Blonde, Blair and Witherspoon have plenty of shared history in Hollywood.
Over the years, the two stars have popped up on each other's social media pages to share words of encouragement and support for one another. From posting throwback Instagram photos to praising each other in interviews, Witherspoon and Blair have shown lots of love for each other. Witherspoon has supported her friend with her multiple sclerosis diagnosis, too — their friendship is there through thick and thin.
Who knows, they could even make a third cult-classic movie together at some point. Until then, we'll settle for reading all about their friendship — and their Cruel Intentions and Legally Blonde reunions — throughout the years. (Besides, Elle Woods and Vivian Kensington would totally still be friends after all this time, and they'd probably be running the world together!)
Selma Blair and Reese Witherspoon starred in two iconic movies together
Cruel Intentions is one of the most legendary teen movies out there. Reese Witherspoon and Selma Blair, along with Sarah Michelle Gellar and Ryan Phillippe, played prep-school teens in the 1999 classic. That alone gained these stars recognition, but Witherspoon and Blair went on to co-star in another cult-classic, Legally Blonde, in 2001.
And while you might think that A-listers get tired of fans talking about the same roles over and over, it seems like these two are perfectly happy to hop on the nostalgia train. In May 2015, Blair, Witherspoon, and Gellar saw Cruel Intentions the Musical in Los Angeles. "Best girls night of the year!!!" Witherspoon captioned a photo of the trio. They even lip-synced along to Natalie Imbruglia's "Torn," which fans caught on video.
If the Cruel Intentions nostalgia weren't enough, Witherspoon has also shared Legally Blonde throwbacks over the years, like this photo of the two actors she posted in January 2016. It doesn't seem like they'll ever get tired of their iconic roles — which is a good thing, with Legally Blonde 3 on the way!
Reese Witherspoon and Sarah Michelle Gellar supported Selma Blair when she was diagnosed with MS
In October 2018, Selma Blair revealed that two months earlier, she had been diagnosed with multiple sclerosis, a disease that affects the nervous system. And in a July 2019 interview with People, Blair shared that her friends, including her Cruel Intentions co-stars Sarah Michelle Gellar and Reese Witherspoon, had been supporting her with "food trains" of meal delivery for her and her son.
"Sarah started the meal train, which is good because my kid likes to eat dinner and that wouldn't happen without it," Blair told the magazine. "I get weekend meal packs like I've never feasted on before from Reese Witherspoon, from Constance Zimmer and so many people I don't even know through Sarah."
Blair has shared some of her MS symptoms — including falling, memory loss, and dropping things — on Instagram and in various interviews. But her friends, along with her coworkers and family, are helping her live her life with the disability.
Selma Blair called Reese Witherspoon a 'mentor and inspiration'
In a December 2017 Instagram post, Selma Blair dedicated her #WomanCrushWednesday to her former co-star, Reese Witherspoon. "Extraordinary @reesewitherspoon who was a mentor and inspiration to me when I started out. She is one of the first women to have parlayed her incredible acting career into a formidable producing presence," Blair wrote of The Morning Show star. She also shared some vintage photos of the two of them together, including a couple of shots that appear to have been taken while they were guests at a wedding, with full 2000s fashion (think chunky belts and animal print!) on display.
Whether or not Blair's character Vivian shows up in Legally Blonde 3, and whether or not there are any future Cruel Intentions reunions in store, it looks like Witherspoon and Blair's friendship will stand the test of time. Here's hoping for many more throwback posts and inside stories about these iconic movies and their leading ladies!
