The Truth About 90 Day Fiance Star Darcey Silva And Jesse Meester's Relationship
Darcey Silva and Jesse Meester might get the title of the most cringe-worthy couple to ever grace 90 Day Fiancé: Before the 90 Days. The doomed pair seemed mismatched from the jump. Darcey, a Connecticut-based mother-of-two, had little in common with Jesse, a Dutch model who's almost 20 years her junior. And sure enough, the May-December romance could barely make it from May to December. The pair broke up on camera and bitterly went their separate ways.
Yes, the relationship was cringey, but it also marks the beginning of Darcey and Jesse's rise to reality TV stardom. Darcey appeared on four seasons of Before the 90 Days, 90 Day Fiancé: Pillow Talk, and even landed her own spinoff Darcey & Stacey with twin sister Stacey Silva in 2020. Jesse appeared on 90 Day Fiancé: What Next? and then dedicated himself to making occasional public announcements about his dislike of Darcey.
Darcey and Jesse managed to stand out as one of the most unbelievable couples in a franchise built on the backs of couples that you basically can't believe are together. Their dysfunction helped propel the show to the pop-culture juggernaut it is today. So, here's everything you need to know about the couple that seemingly launched a thousand spinoffs.
Jesse Meester and Darcey Silva fought about everything
While many couples bicker about silly things now and then, most couples don't have explosive arguments over how to cook a steak. But then again, most couples aren't Darcey Silva and Jesse Meester. The pair's most memorable blowout occurred when Jesse arrived in the states to meet Darcey and hang out with her kids, Aspen and Aniko. They decided to celebrate by making a nice steak dinner. Well, no good deed goes unpunished, as they say. Jesse cooked the steak, and Darcey said he was cutting it wrong. What followed was an argument for the ages.
Jesse, who is not a professional chef, stormed out of the house and informed the cameras that it might seem small, but cooking steak is actually a "big thing" to him. He was "really trying to open up" by grilling some meat for the family... um, okay. Darcey eventually convinced Jesse to join her and the kids for the most awkward family dinner ever. Jesse continued to pout, and Darcey's daughters looked just as uncomfortable as everyone watching at home felt.
A few short weeks later, the couple called it quits in yet another blowout fight, this time in a cramped New York City hotel. "You never loved me," a distraught Darcey yelled as Jesse stormed away for the final time. Much to the relief of viewers — and let's be real, probably Aspen and Aniko too — he never darkened Darcey's doorway again.
Jesse Meester and Darcey Silva wanted to have a baby
Fighting in front of your would-be step-kids is bad enough, but apparently, Jesse Meester and Darcey Silva planned on having a child of their own. In an August 2020 episode of Darcey & Stacey, Darcey talked about what might have been. In an emotional interview, she told the camera (per In Touch Weekly), "Jesse and I said we loved each other. We said we wanted a future together, and he wanted a child. [We] talked about IVF." She continued to explain how much they planned it out. Darcey said, "We wanted a boy, even named him Maximus. I just don't know why you would say all those things and then treat me the way he treated me."
The heartache over the breakup, and the missed opportunity to have another child, inspired Darcey to seek help via therapy. On the show, she told her therapist she wanted to fix patterns she encountered in previous relationships, including dating younger men and settling for controlling partners. Darcey claimed she wanted to work through her issues so that they wouldn't affect her current relationship with Georgi Rusev (also younger than her and in the U.S. on a visa). "I want to be open to love in the right way. Release past baggage and not bring that into something new," she explained.
We're all rooting for you, Darcey... well, everyone but Jesse anyway.
