The Real Reason The Weeknd And Bella Hadid Split
Bella Hadid and The Weeknd (real name Abel Tesfaye) broke up in August 2019, marking the second time the model and musician parted ways during their four-year relationship. According to E! News, they were first seen together at Coachella in 2015, where The Weeknd was a headlining performer. "They were hanging out in Coachella and were flirting lots," an insider told the outlet at the time. "They have many things in common and really enjoyed each other's company. She loves his music as well. They are hanging out for sure now."
In November 2016, the two split, marking a big heartbreak in Hadid's life, as she explained to Teen Vogue in February 2017. "As an outsider, you might think I handled it so well, but it's always in your heart, and you always feel it very heavily. It'll be hard for a while. Love hurts, but you have to pull through." Making this even more difficult? The two had to cross paths when Hadid made her debut as a Victoria's Secret Angel at the lingerie retailer's annual runway show, as The Weeknd was one of the event's performers. Yikes.
The couple reunited in 2018, but the second time around also had an unhappy ending. Find out what was behind the second break-up and where Hadid and The Weeknd stand now.
The truth about The Weeknd and Bella Hadid's on-again, off-again relationship
Signs that The Weeknd and Bella Hadid got back together started appearing around the spring of 2018 when the couple showed off some PDA at the Cannes Film Festival. A source told Us Weekly at the time that the then-on-again couple made it "obvious" they were together. "They weren't trying to hide it either," the insider said. FYI: During their break, The Weeknd dated Selena Gomez.
Hadid and The Weeknd's reunion got documented with several postings on their Instagram accounts, including snapshots of the pair in matching fatigues to celebrate The Weeknd's birthday. By late fall 2018, Us Weekly reported that the couple moved in together. Although the two seemed to be very much in the public eye, they tried to keep things away from the spotlight following their reconciliation. "When they were more public, it deteriorated their relationship," a source told Us Weekly. "They're [Hadid and The Weeknd] are trying to be more private. They're doing well and just keeping things low key."
Nevertheless, the couple called it quits again. E! News reported in August 2019 from an insider that their conflicting schedules led to their breakup. "They are in different places right now, physically and mentally," the source said. "Bella is prepping for her fashion week commitments and Abel is working on his music and his upcoming acting debut."
However, the two could try again a third time. Us Weekly reported in June 2020 that the exes "have been in touch recently," according to a source. Only time will tell where this relationship will go.
