Why 90 Day Fiance's Eric And Leida Turned Down Happily Ever After
The road to happiness hasn't exactly been smooth for 90 Day Fiancé's Eric Rosenbrook and Leida Margaretha. To recap, things started off on the wrong foot when Leida flew from Indonesia to Wisconsin to move in with her new husband, according to Us Weekly. It turns out Eric's teenage daughter did what many teenagers do, and trashed the place while dad was out of town, leaving the apartment a wreck, much to Leida's displeasure.
Things went from bad to worse when Leida realized there was just one twin bed and no room for her 5-year-old son. It quickly became apparent that Leida was expecting a much more luxurious life than the small midwestern apartment Eric was able to provide. Leida more or less admitted she was only marrying Eric for a green card. "I feel like I'm forcing myself to get married with you because I don't want to leave this country because I have a lot of opportunity to pursue my medical career here," she said during an episode, per Us Weekly.
Despite all the drama, they made it down the aisle, and as of this writing, they are happily raising their blended family in Wisconsin. But Leida and Eric won't be appearing on Happily Ever After or any other 90 Day Fiance spinoff anytime soon. Here's everything we know about the couple's curious decision to sever ties with the popular franchise.
Eric Rosenbrook and Leida Margaretha are over TLC
During an appearance on the Domenick Nati Show on July 4, 2020, the couple claimed TLC approached them about appearing on Happily Ever After, but that the contract's parameters made them uncomfortable. Leida alleged that "once you sign for Happily Ever After, they basically own you," as reported by Showbiz Cheat Sheet.
"Once you sign that first Happily Ever After, it's in there that they can pretty much pull you into anything they want," Eric continued. "They own you for at least a while." The couple and the network were also in disagreement about salary negotiations. Eric said that TLC's initial offer was far too low his liking. But when the couple counteroffered with a higher sum, TLC wasn't interested in playing ball.
According to Eric, they became so exasperated with the back and forth they eventually countered with something they knew the network couldn't match: $5,000 apiece per episode and a pick-up truck. "I was like, 'And I want a truck.'" Eric said in the interview, "And they were like, 'No, we don't do that.'"
Although Eric and Leida haven't completely ruled out returning to TLC sometime in the future, it's unlikely to happen anytime soon. However, Eric said he would be open to appearing on Pillow Talk, another 90 Day Fiancé spinoff. As for Leida? She isn't so sure. The Indonesia native was unhappy with the way they got portrayed on 90 Day Fiancé and isn't eager to relive the experience. "We've been there, done that," she said.
