The Real Reason Kim And Kourtney Kardashian Don't Get Along
Fans of Keeping Up With The Kardashians know that Kourtney and Kim Kardashian's relationship has been prickly for some time. But it's hard to see past the reality TV storylines and figure out exactly why Kim and Kourtney don't get along as well as they do with some of their other sisters. Everything is reportedly copacetic between the two superstars these days, but their Season 18 KUWTK premiere fight, which aired in March 2020, might actually offer more clues into their strained dynamic that you might assume.
Per CNN, the fight started while Kim, Kourtney, and Kendall Jenner were talking about how their youngest sister, Kylie Jenner, wasn't going to go to Paris for a fashion show because she felt too sick. Kim noted that she would never miss a work commitment, even if she were on her deathbed. While that could have been enough, Kim went for an extra dig, telling her sister Kourtney that she has a bad work ethic. Kourtney responded, "You act like I don't do s**t. You have this narrative in your mind. No, no, no, I will literally f**k you up if you mention it again."
That's when they came to literal blows, with the two sisters hitting and scratching each other to the point that Kim was bleeding, per People. But this beef had been brewing forever and finally letting all their feelings out might have been just what the two sisters needed, even if violence is never the answer.
Kourtney Kardashian doesn't like filming the show
In March 2020, Kim Kardashian told Jimmy Fallon, per People, that the fight was really about how her sister Kourtney had a bad attitude about filming their reality show. "She's not the type of person to make a decision and say, 'Okay, guys, I'm not going to film.' But she would come to work with an attitude every day and take it out on everyone, from the crew to us, and wouldn't really make that decision. So we would kind of just keep on pushing her to figure out why she was so unhappy," Kim explained. She added that they shut down production for a week after the fight, and eventually Kourtney decided to take a break from filming altogether, per an interview with Entertainment Tonight.
This isn't the first time that Kourtney has taken a break from filming or expressed a desire to cut back on her time on-screen. In Season 15, Kourtney complained that getting together for the family Christmas card was getting in the way of her time with her kids. In response, Kim called her the "least exciting to look at" and then dug into her on Twitter for not working enough, per Racked. Kim seems to always feel that Kourtney doesn't "do" enough, which is really the heart of their beef.
These two Kardashian sisters have a lot on their plates
Since taking a step back from filming Keeping Up With The Kardashians, Kourtney Kardashian has focused her energy on running her lifestyle brand, Poosh, and has made some new friends, like TikTok star Addison Rae. She also co-parents her three kids — Mason, Penelope, and Reign — with her ex Scott Disick. To be honest, simply dealing with Scott looks like a full-time job somedays. All of that seems to be enough for her, and per Entertainment Tonight, she isn't opposed to returning to film in a larger capacity someday. For her, it's all about balance.
Kim Kardashian, on the other hand, can't seem to stop working. Between the show, running KKW Beauty and SKIMS, and parenting her four kids — North, Saint, Chicago, and Psalm — with her husband Kanye West (who also has a lot going on right now), she's also studying to become a lawyer. But when it comes to who does what or who is the most interesting, it shouldn't be a competition, given that both sisters have a lot going on in their lives.
Only Kim and Khloe Kardashian really film 'KUWTK' anymore
For Kim Kardashian, it really seems like her family's show is one of the most important things she does in terms of keeping up with her brand. But for Kourtney Kardashian, that's clearly not the case and she seems ready to move on. Kourt said as much when the Season 18 fight episodes premiered, telling her fans that she was "choosing happiness" by taking a break from the show. She wrote on Instagram, "It is in our darker moments that the growth happens. I finally had the courage to change what was no longer bringing me happiness and putting my time and energy into that which is. Choose happiness!"
Other family members, like sisters Kendall and Kylie Jenner, also don't really film all that much either, by the way. Kendall mostly because she travels so much for work, and Kylie because she really doesn't like being famous. (Or so she claims.) Rob Kardashian almost never appears on the show anymore and his name is barely even uttered. Basically, only Kim and Khloé Kardashian — along with Scott Disick and Kris Jenner — seem to get a kick out of filming the E! reality series. They should really just rename the show "Keeping Up With Scott and Khloé's Pranks On Kris Jenner While Kim Watches Along" at this point.
Maybe Kim needs to realize that it's not just Kourtney that's not exciting to watch anymore — it's the show that's getting a little stale.
