Blue Ivy's Best Moments In Black Is King
Beyonce's new visual album may boast cameos from the likes of Pharrell and Naomi Campbell, but we're sorry — it's definitely Blue Ivy Carter who steals the show.
Queen Bey unleashed her long-awaited visual album Black Is King on July 31, 2020. The 85-minute film was directed, executive produced, and written by Beyoncé, and it "reimagines the lessons of The Lion King for today's young kings and queens in search of their own crowns," per the Disney+ description.
Beyoncé initially revealed the "passion project" in June 2020, taking to Instagram to explain that she had "been filming, researching and editing day and night for the past year." She explained, "'Black Is King' is a labor of love," adding, "I've given it my all and now it's yours."
Speaking of crowns, while Pharrell and Jay Z each look sharp in their respective cameos, the winner of Beyoncé's third visual album would have to be her eldest daughter, Blue Ivy. Blue is growing up fast, taking after mom, and looking both iconic and adorable. She sings, dances, and double-winks her way to our hearts in Black Is King, and she brings an air of young Black royalty to the ambitious project. As one Twitter user wrote, she totally deserves an Oscar. Let's take a look at Blue Ivy's finest moments on Black Is King.
Blue Ivy has some show-stopping moves
Not only is Blue Ivy Carter the undeniable breakout star of Beyoncé's Black Is King, but she makes an unprecedented number of appearances all throughout the visual album. According to New York Post, Blue Ivy first arrives on-screen in the opening number, "Bigger," in which she's lovingly cradled by her mother.
Per Elle, Blue then performs some seriously impressive aerial hoop moves in "Find Your Way Back," looking like a glittery acrobat. On "Brown Skin Girl," we see all three generations of Knowles women as Beyoncé, Tina Knowles-Lawson, Blue Ivy, and Rumi pose for a family photo. During that track, Bey and Blue also have an adorbs mother-daughter handshake moment. (Can we learn this handshake?) Additionally, Blue takes a solo on the track, showcasing her own vocal chops. She won a BET Award for her work on the song, per CNN.
On "My Power," Blue rocks long braids and shows off some serious style. In perhaps her most iconic moment, she does a double-wink that'll surely go down in meme history.
Finally, Blue Ivy joins Bey, dancers, and a choir for a big finish on "Spirit." At the end of the film, Beyoncé dedicates Black Is King to her son Sir Carter "and to all our sons and daughters," according to E! Online. This is a family affair and the most we've ever seen of Blue Ivy on screen. She's killing it, and we can't wait for more!
