The Untold Truth Of Megan Wollover
On July 29, 2020, Tracy Morgan announced that he and his wife, Megan Wollover, were splitting up. "Sadly, after nearly five years of marriage, Megan and I are filing for divorce," Morgan told People in a statement, which was released through his spokesperson. "This is a challenging time for all involved, so I ask that you please respect our privacy."
It's unclear what went wrong since the pair seemed happy quarantining together in their New Jersey home in May 2020 with their daughter, Maven Sonae. "We're taking this time to get closer — loving more and being patient with each other," the 30 Rock alum told People at the time. "My life is always so busy, so now I get time to just be with my family."
Over the past few years, the couple went through some challenges, including when Morgan was injured following a car accident in 2014. However, Wollover stayed by her husband's side through it all. "[Our life] did change a lot. People grow together, but this was big," she told Essence magazine in 2016. "We really went through a life and death situation. We had a daughter, which was a new life, and then 9 or 10 months later the accident happened and Tracy almost died." At the end of the day, Wollover and Morgan couldn't make their relationship work.
Although Wollover isn't as well-known as Morgan, she is still famous in her own right. Let's get to know more about the model below.
Megan Wollover is a 'family-oriented person'
Megan Wollover might not have as much experience in the entertainment industry as her estranged husband, Tracy Morgan, but she was a producer on The Last O.G. and was a former model, according to Hollywood Life. However, Wollover made it clear during an interview with Essence magazine in 2016 that the most important role in her life is being a mother to her daughter, Maven Sonae. "I'm a really, really family-oriented person," she explained.
"I think sometimes people see me, and that I'm younger than my husband and that I used to model, and I don't think people realize that my whole life [is] about my husband and my daughter," she added. "I take motherhood very seriously. I'm very hands on. I manage my household. It's one of the best things in the world for me and I like taking time to cherish and appreciate those moments."
When Wollover met Morgan, she was only 24 years old, but over time — especially after Morgan's tragic accident — she realized that family is "very important" to her. "It's just been a lot of changes for me," she explained. "If you had asked me that maybe six years ago, it would have been a completely different answer. But it's just the woman that I'm becoming today. After an accident, you value and look at what's really important and where your priorities are. For me, that's where I'm at right now in my life — family over everything."
Inside Megan Wollover and Tracy Morgan's whirlwind romance
Megan Wollover and Tracy Morgan met through a mutual friend who set them up on a blind date. In fact, Wollover had no idea she would be meeting the comedian for dinner. "When I pulled up and saw it was him, I was like, 'Oh my gosh, what's going on here?'" Wollover recalled to InsideWeddings in 2015.
Following their date, Wollover noted Morgan was "charming and sweet," while the Hollywood star knew the former model was his soulmate. "The very first thing I said to Megan when I met her was, 'You are going to be my wife,'" he told People in 2015. "No joke, before I even said 'Hello,' I knew we would be married one day." The pair got engaged after dating for over a year.
The former flames wanted to get married in 2014, but the plans were put on hold due to Morgan's car accident. Fortunately, the pair wed 14 months later in 2015. Despite Morgan's slow recovery, he was set on "walk[ing] [his] wife down the aisle," he told People in 2015. "I don't want to walk my wife down the aisle with a cane or in a wheelchair. So, I had to go hard with the therapy, I had to get better. There was no ifs, ands or buts about it."
Morgan and Wollover had their 150-person wedding at "a gorgeous chapel" in New Jersey, per InsideWeddings.
Megan Wollover stayed strong for Tracy Morgan
Tracy Morgan and Megan Wollover had their fairy-tale wedding in 2015, just one year after the comedian's limousine was hit by a Walmart truck on the New Jersey Turnpike, according to ABC News. Unfortunately, Morgan's friend James McNair died from the accident, and according to Essence magazine, Morgan was in a coma for over a week. Luckily, the actor recovered but was wheelchair-bound for five months.
Through the ups and the downs, Wollover "realized how strong" she was through the whole ordeal. "Sometimes pressure makes people react better in situations," she told Essence magazine in 2016. "It was so much at the time. I said to myself, 'Okay, who's going to handle all this stuff? Who's going to take care of all this stuff?' I had to stay strong and be positive."
At the end of the day, Wollover — who was engaged to Morgan at the time — made it clear she was not going anywhere. "You know, when you love someone, you stick in there," she added. "You pray for the best and you stick through it. It's almost like a miracle to me, where he's at today, because if this were maybe August 2014, I don't think I would have seen this progress at all."
It's unfortunate that Wollover and Morgan decided to call it quits but some things just aren't meant to be.
