Where Does Mariska Hargitay Live And How Big Is Her House?
Some celebrities know how to live well, like Taylor Swift, who owns seven houses across the U.S. valued in total at $81 million, per Business Insider. While Mariska Hargitay isn't living that well, the Law & Order: SVU star and one of the biggest names in network TV isn't doing half bad in terms of her living situation.
Hargitay landed the now-iconic role of Detective Olivia Benson on the crime series in 1999. 20 years later, Associated Press reported that Law & Order: SVU was the "longest-running prime-time live-action series in U.S. TV history." Forbes reported in 2014 that Hargitay was making $450,000 per episode, and that's before syndication, so it's clear the actress can afford somewhere nice to hang her hat.
Mariska Hargitay, along with husband and Younger actor Peter Hermann and their three kids, have a pretty impressive crib in the Hamptons. According to New York Post, the actress bought her current 11,000 square-foot, 11-bedroom, 6.5-bathroom mansion on Cottage Lane in the East Hamptons in 2010. Here's what she paid for that sweet set-up and the other massive properties Hargitay has called home in the Big Apple.
Her Hamptons crib is worth millions
The New York Post reported that Mariska Hargitay paid $7.34 million for her Hamptons house, down from its original asking price of $8.9 million. Not bad! According to Variety, she bought the shingled abode from interior decorator Lorraine Kirke, mother of Girls star Jemima Kirke. Hargitay's neighbors in the glitzy East Hampton area include Martha Stewart, Jon Bon Jovi, and Candice Bergen. The property is on 1.41 acres and includes a pool and a guesthouse.
Hargitay has owned some huge homes in New York City as well. According to Architectural Digest, she called a chic Upper West Side townhouse home from 2012 to 2019, when she sold it for a cool $9.75 million. Unfortunately, that was a smidge lower than the $10.75 million asking price she and husband Peter Hermann hoped for, which was also the figure they paid when they bought it in 2012, according to Business Insider. The townhouse features huge glass windows, multiple outdoor spaces, sleek pops of color. It has five bedrooms, six bathrooms, and three powder rooms spread across 6,925 square feet. Below, check out the former residence and the even more grandiose townhouse Mariska Hargitay previously called home.
She's owned stunning NYC apartments
Where did Mariska Hargitay live before those impressive abodes? From 2007 to 2008, per Curbed, she called a Chelsea, Manhattan stunner home. The penthouse apartment sits at the top of the seven-story O'Neill Building on Sixth Avenue, which dates back to the 19th century. The duplex spans nearly 5,000 square feet with an additional 2,500 square feet of outdoor space spread across three terraces, one of which features a regal gold turret with a room inside. Hargitay bought the home for $7.1 million, according to Fox Business, before selling it a year later. Now, it's listed for $13.5 million. Should have held on to that one! We'll see what apartment the star makes headlines for next, Manhattan-wise. As she told People in March 2020, she's staying on Law & Order for the foreseeable future.
"I think I was meant to do this," the actress said. "I was the one who was supposed to play Olivia Benson."
