What Alexia Echevarria From Real Housewives Of Miami Is Up To Today
It's been a wild ride for Real Housewives of Miami alum, Alexia Echevarria, since the show informally wrapped more than six years ago. For starters, Alexia endured a very public split from husband, Herman Echevarria, only for him to suddenly pass away a little over a year later, per Bustle. After that, Bravo's "Cuban Barbie" found herself entangled in a nasty legal battle with her estranged husband's children, eventually losing the home she lived in for many years and her career as the executive editor at Venue magazine.
Fortunately, however, it's not been all bad for the reality star. In a recent video for Bravo's The Daily Dish, Alexia credited the time she spent nursing her son back to health after he was involved in tragic car accident in 2011 for reminding her what's truly important these days. "He has a purpose," Alexia shared. "You guys didn't really see what I went through in Season 2 because I wasn't ready to share that, it just happened that way. I know he's a miracle and I know that miracles exist because I saw it in Frankie and I see it every day. He's like our little angel. He loves his life and we're so fortunate to have him."

Alexia Echevarria experienced tragedy after the show
Shortly after the Real Housewives of Miami cameras stopped rolling, Alexia Echevarria's marriage to Herman Echevarria abruptly came to a standstill as well. Alexia opened up to Bustle about the split, explaining that her son Frankie's traumatic car accident put their marriage under strain. "Following Frankie's accident, we became close in so many ways, but, as a couple, we became very distant," Alexia explained. "Inside of me, I really wanted him to fight for me and our family, and say, 'no, let's do this,' but he didn't."
Alexia shared with Bustle that she and Herman opted to not go the divorce route but rather just live separately. But that all changed suddenly when Herman passed away from a heart attack in September 2016. As reported by E! News, Alexia was stunned to learn of Herman's passing. "The last 24 hours have been a nightmare for my family and I," said Alexia. "It is life once again showing me that at the drop of a hat, things can change. I can't imagine what my life will be like walking into my office every day and not seeing Herman or having our family dinners with the kids and family. We were in this for fifteen years and although we were currently separated and living in separate homes, our spiritual and emotional connection was stronger than ever."
Alexia Echevarria lost everything
Shortly after her estranged husband's passing, things only got worse for Alexia Echevarria. The reality star quickly found herself in the midst of a bitter legal dispute over the home she'd shared with the late Herman Echevarria. According to the Miami Herald, Herman's adult children, Nelson and Herman Echevarria, Jr., wanted their former stepmother out of the house so they could put the home up for sale, while Alexia preferred to remain where she was. Unfortunately for Alexia, the judge sided with Herman's children, simply because Alexia and Herman hadn't been married at the time the house was purchased and only his name was on the deed.
But the blows kept coming. To make matters worse, Herman's children and executors to his estate were also awarded all of the shares to Venue, the magazine that the couple started together. Alexia talked very candidly to Bustle about that particularly difficult time in her life. "I had to pack the house, after living there 16 years with both of my kids," she explained. "It was so unfair, but after I fall, I get up even stronger." And that she did!
Alexia Echevarria is now engaged
Alexia Echevarria has a smile on her face these days. While the successes of her sons are partly responsible for the former magazine publisher's newfound happiness, her brand new fiancé might also have a little something to do with it. As reported by Bravo's The Daily Dish, Alexia got engaged to real estate titan, Todd Nepola, in December 2019 when the couple took an early Christmas trip. Shortly after receiving her engagement ring, Alexia took to Instagram to share the good news. Along with a photo of the couple sharing a kiss, the bride-to-be also shared a simple caption that read, "I SAID YES."
Alexia spilled the tea to Bravo regarding her current wedding plans. The blushing bride is adamant that though the wedding plans may be on a bit of a hiatus due to the coronavirus pandemic, she's not stressing about it one bit. "There's more important things to focus on now and to worry about, so we decided that we would probably get married in the beginning of the year," Alexia said.
With an attitude like that, it's no wonder that Alexia continues to land on her feet, time and time again.
