The Untold Truth Of Southern Survival's Brandon Currin
Considering how many people are stuck indoors for the foreseeable future, it's no surprise that one of Netflix's top 10 most popular shows right now is a reality show in which a crew tests out survivalist gear to the most extreme degree. (And considering the unprecedented number of fireworks that have been going off within major U.S. metropolitan areas, it's also no surprise that viewers are also thirsting for some incendiary fare.)
Enter the July 4th weekend debut of Southern Survival, in which Netflix invites us to tag along with the BattlBox crew as it "prepares for the worst, testing products designed to help people survive dangerous situations, including explosions, natural disasters, and intruders." The memorable members of the cast include Brandon Currin, the long-bearded resident jokester who is quickly securing his status as the show's fan favorite. But what's the story behind BattlBox's intrepid leader? And how did he find his place among the motley crew in the first place? Let's find out.
Brandon Currin is the show's 'in-house survivalist'
As The Cinemaholic noted, Brandon Currin is regarded as BattlBox and Southern Survival's in-house survivalist — and from what we can tell, it wasn't a reputation easily earned. According to Currin's LinkedIn page, the self-described "WILD MAN" and "redneck" has been working with the great outdoors in some capacity for well over a decade.
Currently listed as the vice president of marketing for BattlBox —a company that sells "hand-picked outdoor, survival, [every day carry], and other cool gear," including a subscription service for true survival enthusiasts — Currin previously worked as a videographer and producer. His interests in both video content and survival gear soon lead to the development of his own YouTube channel, which has amassed over 48,000 followers since it launched five years ago.
While Southern Survival might be Currin's biggest series to date, it's certainly not his first. According to The Cinemaholic, the reality star worked as one of the hosts for Pass'n it on Outdoors, a hunting tutorial content series, and served as a videographer for Dry Creek Productions.
Brandon Currin is a family man
Though viewers of Southern Survival might have already familiarized themselves with Brandon Currin's particular brand of outdoorsy and all-American sense of humor (after all, as per Currin and Decider, the BattlBox VP is "so much of an American that his farts sound like a bald eagle"), there's one part of his life he likes to keep under wraps: his family life.
As per The Cinemaholic, Currin's daughter Lyla Grace, affectionately known as "Baby Girl" on his social media accounts, makes a few brief appearances on the show. But she's not the only Currin offspring. Currin's many Instagram posts reveal that Lyla Grace is the youngest of three children, which include her two older brothers, Rylan and Jace. Currin's wife, Katie, is also a member of the Currin brood, though it is unclear how long the two have been together.
With such a strong debut, Southern Survival might just get a second season at this rate — and it's all thanks to Currin and the rest of the BattlBox crew.
