The Real Reason Nicollette Sheridan And Michael Bolton Broke Up
While some of Hollywood's mismatched celebrity couples were too odd to last, there are countless other celebrity couples you totally forgot about. For instance, despite their popularity at the time, it's likely that you've forgotten actress Nicollette Sheridan and singer-songwriter Michael Bolton were even engaged in the mid '00s.
According to an announcement published by Reuters in 2008, Sheridan and Bolton began dating in 1992 and broke up five years later. Yet while the pair rekindled their romance in 2005, which led to their engagement in 2006, they broke it off for good two years later. "Nicollette Sheridan and Michael Bolton have amicably ended their engagement," Sheridan's publicist Nicole Perna said in an official statement. "They appreciate your respect for their privacy in this matter."
In the years since, both Sheridan and Bolton have remained relatively quiet about why exactly they broke up, but the "Said I Loved You...But I Lied" singer ultimately revealed that there's no love lost between them — it simply wasn't meant to be. "It's just something that happens with you and somebody in your life," Bolton told Access Hollywood in 2013, adding that there'll always be "certain people you're always gonna love."
Bolton also noted that his nearly 18-year love affair with Sheridan was "powerful" and that, although the actress was undeniably "gorgeous and funny," their relationship "ran its course" (per the Mirror). And, as it turns out, Bolton still believes he'll find "the one" someday, as he's just as romantic as his hit records indicate.
Michael Bolton hasn't ruled out romance and marriage just yet
Ugly celebrity breakups aren't uncommon. For Hollywood couples, it's often the norm. But when actress Nicollette Sheridan and singer-songwriter Michael Bolton parted ways, neither one became angry or petty. In fact, years later, Bolton had nothing but kind words for his ex-fiancé. "The worst thing about the end of the relationship was losing your best friend in the world and your closest confidante. It's a cliché, but I just want Nicollette to be happy," he said in 2009 (per the Mirror).
But while Bolton noted that their "life experience together isn't something you can replace with being single," because he'll never "find that particular type of love again as it was unique," he's "not ruling out" the possibility of "romance and marriage" in the future.
"I am a deep, helpless romantic. I don't think there is any better feeling than being in love," Bolton said (per the Mirror). "I believe in The Ultimate. Then I get disappointed. But am I being unreasonable in what The Ultimate is?" He added, "I have been set up on blind dates. Some were nice. I don't think I had any miserable blind dates. You're having dinner, you are basically continuing your interviewing process. I am good at being single, but there is room for a partner."
While Bolton has only been married once to ex-wife Maureen McGuire, with whom he shares three kids, we hope the 67-year-old star finds his perfect partner someday.
Nicollette Sheridan's ex-husband Harry Hamlin accused her of cheating with Michael Bolton
Prior to her relationship with singer-songwriter Michael Bolton, Desperate Housewives actress Nicollette Sheridan was married to actor Harry Hamlin. But in 2019, Hamlin's current wife, reality star Lisa Rinna, claimed to her fellow The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills castmates that Sheridan sabotaged her marriage when she cheated on Hamlin with Bolton. According to Rinna, Sheridan "went to a Michael Bolton concert at the Hollywood Bowl — and left with Michael Bolton!" (per People).
Sheridan refuted Rinna's "FAKE NEWS" claims on Twitter by adding that she and Hamlin "ended our marriage nose to nose in Canada," but her ex-husband countered her argument right away.
"What's it called when your wife of one year suddenly goes to bed with a pop singer? ...two weeks after your mother dies??" Hamlin tweeted. "I did a lotta stuff with my wife 'nose to nose' but ending our marriage was not one of them!" Sheridan added that the end of their marriage "had nothing to do with anyone other than us" and that it was "sad" Hamlin "still can't own [his] part."
But, while we'll likely never know the complete truth behind this he said/she said matter, Rinna is grateful for whatever role Bolton might've played. "I thank Michael Bolton to this day. Are you kidding me? Let's cheers to Michael Bolton!" Rinna added (per People). "Thank you, Michael Bolton, because I would not have these beautiful children." There's always a bright side!
