The Real Reason Chrishell Stause Struggles Watching Selling Sunset
Despite the fact that numerous reality TV shows feel staged or scripted, for actress Chrishell Stause, the upcoming season of Netflix's Selling Sunset promises to expose the fresh — and very real — wounds she's suffered in the aftermath of her divorce from actor Justin Hartley. During the final episode of Season 2, a trailer revealed what's "still to come" in Season 3, and as expected, there are plenty of tears ahead.
"Chrishell has obviously been very emotional on set and reliving all this back has been triggering," one source told Us Weekly in May 2020. Yet while it surely can't be easy for Stause to relive the early days of their divorce — Hartley officially filed the paperwork in November 2019 — she assured fans that she's ready for whatever life throws her way.
"Transitions are hard, but I always try to focus on the positive side of things. Thankfully there is a lot to focus on right now," Stause told Us Weekly. "As far as career and life go, I don't have a plan because I've seen what good those are. I just have a really open mind and am going to enjoy the journey."
The All My Children alum added that, since signing with United Talent Agency, she has much to look forward to in the coming months. "I have been working so hard this last year so I am really proud to feel it culminate to this moment." We're excited to see what's in store for this versatile, talented star!
Chrishell Stause plans to 'go off the grid' so she won't have to relive her divorce on TV
Although realtor Chrishell Stause maintains an incredibly positive attitude in the wake of her divorce from This Is Us star Justin Hartley, she has no plans to rehash the experience now that Season 2 of Netflix's Selling Sunset is out. "It's obviously not something that I am looking forward to but it does follow our real life," Stause told Entertainment Tonight. "Where the show picks up, that was my life and unfortunately you are going to follow the journey of that — the good and the bad. When it gets to the bad, I am going to go under a rock and I am going to go off the grid."
"I obviously really, truly love him and it's unfortunate the way that everything happened and the timing of everything," she added. "I still had a month to plot shooting the show when this all went down. Hopefully we can get to a place where one day we will look back at this and laugh. I don't know, hopefully. It's very unfortunate and relationships are hard."
Once again, Stause is choosing to look on the bright side. "I have so many great things to focus on and so much good news," she said. "It's one of those things where I have to focus on what I am really grateful and fortunate for and that's a lot right now. So, I am very good."
Chrishell Stause understands you must 'take the good with the bad' as a reality TV star
When Chrishell Stause first joined Netflix's Selling Sunset, she "wasn't one hundred percent sure what I was signing up for... so it was a bit of a learning process," she recalled to Refinery29 in May 2020. By Season 2, however, she "felt like I'd earned my place in the group." "I was more confident with my decisions," Stause added. "And I found it easier to stick up for myself."
But Stause admitted it was uncomfortable to live life in front of the camera "when my personal life kind of exploded" with one month left to film. "It's not a comfortable thing to live in front of everyone. If I'm being 100 percent honest with you, it's friggin' awkward," Stause told ET Canada. "It wasn't the easiest transition because I was definitely a fish out of water. But I feel like it's not going to work if you're not yourself and so, unfortunately, that means showing the good and the bad at times."
Ultimately, Stause understands that she just has to "take the good with the bad" because she's "proud" of what they have created. "At the end of the day, I'm very confident in the fact that I'm a good person," she said. "I try to always do the best I can, and when I fail, I try and learn from it — hopefully that comes across on the show." What a fabulous role model!
