The Untold Truth Of Mike Tyson's Ex-Wives
Third time's a charm! At least, that's how it seems for Mike Tyson's experience of marriage. The heavyweight champion has had a tough life in many ways and his relationships have proven no different.
Tyson became famous (and rich) at an extremely young age. According to ESPN, Tyson made his professional debut at 18 in March 1985. Then, in November 1986, Tyson became the youngest man to win a share of the heavyweight title. It seemed there was nothing the young boxer couldn't do and he went ahead setting major records. According to ESPN, "Tyson landed 56 percent of his power punches, which is 15 percentage points higher than the heavyweight average." Not too shabby!
Since his success, Tyson has been in and out of the media for many different reasons. One notable cause was his finances. Despite making almost $400 million over the past 20 years, Tyson ended up squandering his fortune, according to The New York Times.
While Tyson has had some very public struggles with money, he has also had some very public divorces and messy relationships. Keep reading to find out the rarely-discussed stories of Tyson's ex-wives.
Mike Tyson caught his first wife in bed with Brad Pitt
Life hasn't been an easy ride for Mike Tyson, especially in terms of relationships. The heavyweight champion got married for the first time in 1988, according to The Daily Star, to Robin Givens (pictured). They got married just 11 months after their first date because Givens announced that she was pregnant, which expedited the marriage ceremony. However, shortly afterwards she had a miscarriage.
According to The Daily Star, Tyson spent millions on a New Jersey home for Givens and her mother as well as putting several million in a bank account for her. Shortly after, Givens filed for divorce but she and Tyson continued to see each other for a while, though they were only technically married from 1988-1989.
One remarkable story that Tyson shared of his time with Givens was when he found her in bed with Brad Pitt. According to The Daily Star, Pitt faced Tyson and pleaded: "Dude, don't strike me, don't strike me." Tyson later said of Pitt: "You had to see the look on his face. He looked like he was ready to receive his last rites. He also looked stoned out of his gourd."
According to The Guardian, Givens said in a televised interview that she was afraid of Tyson.
Mike Tyson admits to being unfaithful
After Mike Tyson parted ways with Robin Givens, he didn't get married for another eight years. He met his second wife, Monica Turner, in 1990, according to The Daily Star, at a party thrown by Eddie Murphy.
According to the outlet, they stayed in touch while Tyson was serving time "after he had been convicted of raping 18-year-old beauty pageant contestant Desiree Washington." Allegedly, Turner visited Tyson every few weeks while he was in prison.
Upon his release, they moved to Maryland together and had two children, Rayna and Amir, according to The Daily Star. Their marriage ended in 2003, when Turner claimed adultery.
Finally, Tyson met his third wife, Lakiha "Kiki" Spicer (pictured) and they married in 2009. They were introduced by boxing promoter Dom King. According to The Guardian, they married in "the La Bella Wedding Chapel at the Las Vegas Hilton hotel-casino" in a short, private ceremony.
It hasn't been an easy marriage though, as Tyson admitted on rapper T.I.'s ExpediTIously podcast that he wasn't faithful for the first several years of their marriage (via The Daily Star.)
But Spicer had her own issues and was sentenced to "six months in federal jail for defrauding" thousands of dollars from a company owned by her father, per the outlet. In fact, she was pregnant with Tyson's child while she was serving time. Life seems to have calmed down, however, and they are still together.
