Dwyane Wade Is Unrecognizable With His New Hair
People have found numerous ways to stay entertained during the coronavirus pandemic. For five weeks, millions watched the ESPN documentary The Last Dance, which focused on the golden era of the Chicago Bulls. In addition to sharing new, behind-the-scenes information, the documentary also reignited the world's fascination with Dennis Rodman – an icon in sports, pop culture, and style.
Aside from watching that docu-series (and other great shows), many people, including celebs, have entertained themselves with at-home beauty treatments with some opting to dye their hair fun colors. Hilary Duff transformed her signature blonde hair with some bright, blue dye. Bachelor alum Arie Luyendyk Jr. sported an early Eminem-inspired blonde look and pastel blue hair in May 2020. The same month, Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star Teddi Mellencamp went pink.
Miami Heat alum Dwyane Wade found a way to combine the world's renewed obsession with Dennis Rodman and the quarantine hair dying trend because, well, why not? He shared a little glimpse of some red hair peeking out from his hat in an Instagram post he shared on May 22, 2020. The basketball star shared a bit more of his hair transformation on May 23, 2020, with an Instagram photo that he captioned with "When they think they know you — Switch it up! #Free #RedHairDontCare."
In the comments section, his son Zaire Wade commented (via People), "Dennis Jr was good!!" The comment seemed to be a reference to Rodman, who has rocked many colorful hairstyles throughout the years, including this bright red hue.
Dwyane Wade's hair reminded people of Dennis Rodman
On May 24, 2020, Dwyane Wade shared an Instagram post with two photos side-by-side; a photo of his new hair on the left next to a throwback of Dennis Rodman playing for the Chicago Bulls with some red hair to match. The post also included a social media comment from Rodman himself. Carmen Electra's ex-husband gave his stamp of approval, writing, "Nice. Hair. Brother." Imitation is the greatest form of flattery, right?
While many people compared Wade's red hair to Rodman's iconic look, it actually seems like he might have been inspired by someone else when he decided to go through with the hair transformation. Dwyane isn't the only Wade family member rocking some bright hair around the house (and on social media, of course).
Dwyane's daughter Zaya Wade's new bright pink hair coordinates well with her father's red hair. The father/daughter duo showed off their new hairstyles in a TikTok video that the basketball player posted on May 24, 2020, and in another TikTok that also featured the pair from the same day.
Aside from vibrant hair, Dwyane, his daughter Zaya, and Rodman all have something else in common. They are all trailblazers in their own ways. Rodman has challenged cultural norms and gender stereotypes throughout his decades in the spotlight with his style decisions and his words. Dwyane has prioritized philanthropy for many years. He's also been a very vocal supporter of his daughter Zaya's transition, which she has courageously shared with the world.
