What Was Sam Lloyd's Net Worth At His Time Of Death?
Scrubs fans will be sorry to hear that actor Sam Lloyd, who played lawyer Ted Buckland on the show, died on April 30, 2020 from "complications of lung cancer," per The New York Times. He was beloved by fans and colleagues alike, having worked as an actor for most of his life.
Over the course of his career, the actor starred in many television shows, appearing on Desperate Housewives, Seinfeld, Modern Family, The West Wing, Cougar Town, and Malcolm in the Middle, among many other credits. Lloyd's legacy will most certainly live on in reruns. That being said, when the shows were on air, he earned quite a pretty penny from his onscreen gigs, which is why Lloyd's net worth at the time of his death was pretty impressive.
When he wasn't on set, Lloyd was honing his singing skills with his a capella group, The Blanks, which made appearances on Scrubs as The Worthless Peons. The group famously sang "Somewhere Over The Rainbow" on the show. He also played bass guitar in The Butties, a Beatles tribute band. While playing covers might not be the most lucrative career, Celebrity Net Worth estimates that he was worth about $600,000 at the time of his death. It's likely that a good bit of his net worth stemmed from his television career.
Friends and family adored Sam Lloyd
Sam Lloyd was beloved by his friends, family, and fans as evidenced by the outpouring of messages in the wake of his death in late April 2020. His wife, Vanessa Villalovos, told Variety, "It doesn't feel real. It never will. It just feels like he will walk through the door. The overwhelming outpouring of love and sharing your stories about working with or knowing Sam keeps his memory alive and our hearts strong."
She continued, "Sam loved his work. I want to continue his legacy, and hope to share some of the beautiful songs he was working on for his musical and our son, Weston." Variety reports that Lloyd was "slated to direct a country rock musical" called With Pam and Gil. However, the project was put on hold after he received his lung cancer diagnosis.
Former Scrubs co-star Zach Braff tweeted of the actor's passing, writing, "Rest In Peace to one of the funniest actors I've ever had the joy of working with. Sam Lloyd made me crack up and break character every single time we did a scene together. He could not have been a kinder man. I will forever cherish the time I had with you, Sammy."
Scrubs creator Bill Lawrence also tweeted a tribute with a behind the scenes pic, writing that he was "thinking a lot" about the actor on the day of his death.
Sam Lloyd's diagnosis came out of the blue
According to Deadline, in January 2019, Sam Lloyd was "diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor and cancer, which eventually spread to his lungs, jaw, liver, and spine." The Scrubs actor had just welcomed his first child, a son named Weston, with his wife, Vanessa Villalovos, just weeks before he was diagnosed.
In May 2020, Vanessa told the The New York Times that she thought "if he had hair," her husband "would [have] rival[ed] some of the most handsome actors in Hollywood." She noted that while it was his sense of humor that made him famous, he also "was just a tender, genuine soul." It's clear that regardless of how much money Lloyd made as an actor and musician, he was invaluable to those who knew him.
According to The New York Times, Lloyd is survived by his wife, son, sisters Robin, Laurel and Sandy; his stepmother, Barbara Lloyd; and his uncle, actor Christopher Lloyd.
