The Real Reason Timothée Chalamet And Lily-Rose Depp Broke Up
2020 has not been kind to celebrity couples. While rumors have swirled that there's trouble in paradise for Julianne Hough and husband Brooks Laich (especially since they opted to self-isolate separately), Kristin Cavallari and Jay Cutler announced their impending divorce in late April 2020. Now, one of the industry's youngest duos has reportedly called it quits. Actor Timothée Chalamet and model Lily-Rose Depp allegedly split after more than a year of dating.
While it's unclear why Chalamet and Depp broke up, a source confirmed to US Weekly that the two have officially parted ways. Split rumors began to circulate after an April 2020 British Vogue article referred to Chalamet as "single." However, neither Chalamet nor Depp have officially confirmed or commented on their breakup.
Chalamet and Depp kept their relationship low-key throughout its duration, but when asked what it was like to work with Chalamet on Netflix's The King, Depp admitted that she was intimidated. "It's always exciting to work with somebody who you know has given themselves so wholeheartedly to their role and is so invested," Depp told Entertainment Tonight in October 2019. "It can be nerve-wracking to work with people whose talent you admire so much, but hopefully it can only make things better."
Hopefully there's no love lost between these two talents!
Timothée Chalamet and Lily-Rose Depp met while filming 'The King'
In October 2018, Us Weekly revealed that Timothée Chalamet and Lily-Rose Depp were dating after the two were spotted out and about in New York City. "They were walking down the street and he stopped her and pulled her close," an onlooker told the outlet. "They started making out for a while, for over a minute." The couple reportedly met while filming Netflix's The King, per Harper's Bazaar. In the movie, Chalamet stars as King Henry V and Depp plays his wife, Catherine of Valois.
According to E! News, photographers also caught the pair in the East Village in late October 2018 where they shared a meal at Blue Ribbon Fried Chicken — and some PDA. "They were very sweet together. They wrapped their arms around each other in line and linked arms the entire time. They seemed very happy to be together," an eyewitness told E! News. "When they left, they stopped on a street corner and shared another passionate kiss. They huddled together in the rain but loved being outside and were laughing and smiling the entire time. They seemed very into each other."
While Chalamet and Depp remained professional on the red carpet during The King's NYC premiere in October 2019, their steamy make-out session in Italy in September 2019 confirmed their relationship status once and for all. Alas, what once was hot, now is not, and we're sad that these two couldn't make it work. We wish them nothing but the best — both personally and professionally — as their careers continue to soar to new heights.
