What These Celeb Couples Are Doing In Quarantine
The novel coronavirus lockdown has affected most people's lives in various ways. Those of us who aren't sick or essential workers may have seen some of our households devolve into Lord of the Flies, at least with the way in which we settle arguments over who gets control of the TV remote, and celebrities aren't any different. Many famous faces have used their quarantine time like us regular folks: they've been baking banana bread, they've been drinking, they've been binge-watching Tiger King, and they've been passive-aggressively annoying their partners in fear of causing too much conflict in a confined space. We're just assuming that social distancing is a little easier if you're in a sprawling Los Angeles mansion rather than an apartment you share with three roommates, but that doesn't mean it's easy.
Though it's clear some celebrities are losing their minds (lest we forget Gal Gadot's "Imagine"), some have partners to help keep them sane (and keep them from acting a fool on the Internet). Here's how these celebrity couples are spending their lockdowns in love.
Chrissy Teigen and John Legend are getting drunk in the kitchen
Chrissy Teigen and John Legend are eating good in quarantine. In late March 2020, the Cravings author jumped on what will historically be heralded as the month of banana bread (seriously, is there a soul out there that hasn't baked a quarantine loaf?) and offered to make some for whoever was willing to trade her a fresh bag of romaine (with all these baked goods, we need some greens). Ultimately, Legend wasn't thrilled they only had enough bananas for a single loaf, so Teigen was only willing to part with half. Family first!
About a week later, Teigen had moved on from banana bread, picked up a bottle of tequila, and attempted to make some doughnuts. Generally, one would caution against the use of a KitchenAid mixer while wasted, but the model is clearly used to living on the edge. In a Twitter video, she showed off her icing skills by creating a perfect chocolate glaze while Legend cheered her on. "I am hammered honestly," she wrote, and in that moment, Teigen was all of us.
By the time Easter rolled around, Teigen was officially done with cooking. In an Instagram Story, she admitted she was generally exhausted, so Legend stepped in to make a holiday feast of fried chicken, scalloped potatoes, stove top stuffing, and a "big ranchy iceberg." Um, when we're done social distancing, can we stop by for dinner, too?
Sophie Turner gave Joe Jonas a quarantine makeover
If there's one thing worse than being stuck in quarantine, it's being stuck in quarantine while pregnant. According to Just Jared, that's just how Sophie Turner is spending her time stuck inside the Jonas HQ, which isn't all that awful considering she gets to stare at Joe Jonas every minute of every day. In an Instagram Stories Q&A (via the Mirror), Turner admitted as much when she revealed that her handsome husband was her favorite "work of art." Plus, he makes her giant bowls of pasta while they're on lockdown. Who doesn't appreciate some quarantine carbs?
"Everything seems to be working out in my favor here," Turner admitted during an episode of Conan at Home. "Because Joe's like a — he's a really social butterfly. So, I struggle to kind of lock him down and have him just spend time with me ... It's like prison for him, but it's great for me."
Though these two love birds don't appear to be getting sick of each other while stuck inside, they're definitely getting a little bit bored. There are only so many Harry Potter Lego sets. According to Pop Crave, who captured the now-deleted Instagram Story, Jonas was bored enough to let Turner give him a makeover, which included a purple smokey eye and a glowing swipe of highlighter. Honestly, he totally pulled it off.
Gavin Rossdale and Gwen Stefani are coparenting through quarantine
Quarantine is hectic for families that are all locking down under the same roof — but what are you supposed to do if you share custody with your ex? Gavin Rossdale, who famously split from Gwen Stefani after the No Doubt singer reportedly discovered his affair with their nanny, has been in the thick of it. The musical pair share three kids — Kingston, Zuma, and Apollo — who have been forced to go between their father's home in Los Angeles and Oklahoma, where Stefani is quarantining with boyfriend Blake Shelton on a 10,000 acre ranch.
In an interview with SiriusXM's Trunk Nation, the Bush frontman admitted that split custody had been a "big dilemma," but was working out "okay for now." He explained, "I know who's around me — no one — and know who's bringing me the corona — no one — but you send your kids out somewhere else and they come back to you, and like now you're prone to whoever they're with. So, it's a tricky one for all divorced parents."
Stefani doesn't seem to be sweating it as much — at least not outwardly. The Voice judge has been helping her boyfriend shape up his quarantine mullet. If this moment in time was ever worthy of a hairstyle, it would be something that's just enough business in the front to show during a Zoom work call.
Hilary Duff is practicing the art of passive-aggression while in quarantine
You might love your partner, but let's be honest: you didn't expect to be glued to them for an indefinite period of time. Where are you supposed to go for some peace and quiet? Your closet? Hilary Duff has been hunkered down with her two children and fiancé Matthew Koma, and tensions are running high. It's not quite The Hunger Games, but it's not a Disney Channel Original Series, either. Though Duff has tried her best not to start an outright argument, she is subtly annoying her fiancé until he gets the hint. We stan a petty, blue-haired queen.
In an Instagram Story captured by Pop Culture, Duff filmed herself taking Koma's phone and hiding it between couch cushions. "Guys, whenever you're mad at your man, [but] these quarters are too tight to fight, just do little things like hide his phone in the couch," she quipped. "Really deep down in there."
Though Duff might occasionally get annoyed at Koma enough to take away the one small window he has into the outside world, she's also quite appreciative. In an Instagram post, the Lizzie McGuire star admitted she's fed Koma almost nothing other than sandwiches and vegan tacos for the last 19 days, and he hasn't complained once. "I love you so much. thanks for not complaining," she wrote. "He also takes his job as 'dish cleaner' very serious. I'm going to step up on the laundry .... tomorrow."
Ben Affleck and Ana de Armas are walking in style
Ben Affleck and Knives Out actress Ana de Armas kicked off the coronavirus lockdown with an alleged source outing their super low-key relationship. According to People, the pair, who met on the set of Deep Water, were "definitely dating" when they took a trip to de Armas' native home of Cuba and allegedly made out before boarding their private jet. We get it: private jets make us want to make out, too. Actually, given the current environment, we can also add commercial planes and travel without the fear of getting sick to that list, too. We'll take what we can get.
Though Affleck and de Armas spent early March 2020 "smiling and laughing" all around Havana, People reports that they also stopped for a beach getaway in Costa Rica before heading home to Los Angeles, where they decided to quarantine together. The pair has been joyously walking their dog in expensive leisurewear ever since. While most of us are wearing our largest pair of Walmart sweatpants and a flannel we stole from our dad's closet, de Armas prefers to take her walks in a $2,600 Gucci tracksuit that paparazzi must admire from a safe distance of six feet. According to Page Six, she's also been spotted in $525 Saint Laurent sneakers (let's hope she's watching where her dog goes) and a Celine hoodie worth almost a grand. Meanwhile, it seems like Affleck is working on his quarantine beard.
Will quarantine help Joe and Teresa Giudice reignite the spark?
RHONJ felon Joe Giudice is currently sequestered away from his four daughters and estranged wife, Teresa Giudice, in his native home of Italy, where he was deported following his prison sentence. Now, with flights grounded across the world and both Italy and the United States on lockdown, there's no specific date for when they'll reunite. In a series of Instagram posts (via The Daily Dish), Joe admitted his plans to see his family for Easter were squashed because of the COVID-19 pandemic, and his holidays felt "emptier and less joyful" without them.
Though the reality of being separated from your family is gutting, it seems like distance has truly made the heart grow fonder — at least on Joe's part. Right before Italy embarked on a national lockdown, Us Weekly caught him flirting with his estranged wife on Instagram. Joe commented on one of Teresa's posts with fire emojis and a rose. According to People, the pair had announced their separation in December 2019.
Despite the flirtatious comment, Teresa doesn't appear to be biting. During The Real Housewives of New Jersey reunion (via HollywoodLife), the mother-of-four admitted she was no longer attracted to her husband, and during April 2020's quarantine, RHONJ's resident pot-stirrer Jennifer Aydin told the outlet that Teresa is "not going to worry about Joe." It may seem callous, but they also reportedly "talk like best friends" and "like nothing's ever changed." Will quarantine rekindle this romance? Who knows!
Kim Kardashian and Kanye West are riding out the #KanyeWestIsOverParty
Kim Kardashian and Kanye West won't be adding to their brood anytime soon — even if they're loving quality time together. In a March 2020 interview with The View, Kardashian admitted, "Being at home with four kids, if I ever thought for a minute that I wanted another one, that is out the door."
The Kardashian-Wests' brood aren't the only ones causing a ruckus during quarantine. The reality star and her husband have, somehow, used this boring moment indoors to reignite their long-standing feud with Taylor Swift. According to The Daily Beast, a video leaked of the infamous conversation where West asked Swift for permission to say some vaguely misogynistic stuff about her in his song "Famous." Back in 2016, Swift said she never approved the rapper calling her "that b**ch," and West and Kardashian branded her a liar. The newer leaked video gave a fuller picture, one where the lyrics in question weren't presented in their full form and Swift cautioned West about releasing something with a "strong misogynistic message," like her publicist originally claimed.
Swift used the leak footage as an opportunity to solicit donations to the World Health Organization and Feeding America, while #TaylorToldTheTruth and #KanyeWestIsOverParty trended on Twitter. Kardashian used it as an opportunity to lash out and call Swift self-serving. Let's not forget, Kardashian was also under fire for promoting Skims by promising to donate 20 percent of profits to COVID-19 relief. Where did the other 80 percent go?
Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson got right back to work after their recovery
Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson had a rough go during their stay in Australia. In an early March 2020 Instagram post, Hanks revealed that the pair were diagnosed with the novel coronavirus after exhibiting some of the telltale symptoms, including tiredness, body aches, chills, and slight fevers. The couple remained in isolation, playing Gin Rummy, eating Vegemite, and doing an impressive rendition of Naughty By Nature's "Hip Hop Hooray," until they were given the all clear and headed home.
CNN reports that Hanks and Wilson went back to the U.S. at the end of the month and planned to shelter in place while social distancing. They also went right back to work. In early April, Wilson performed the national anthem at a virtual Nascar event, and Hanks hosted Saturday Night Live's "At Home" episode. According to The Wrap, it scored the season's second highest ratings and second biggest audience next to Eddie Murphy's triumphant return. A total of 6.7 million viewers tuned in.
Quarantine won't stop Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos from giving back to NYC
Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos are doing their best to help their community amidst the novel coronavirus outbreak. According to People, the couple donated $1 million in March 2020, which partly went towards WIN, a nonprofit running women's shelters across New York City, and the state's Governor's Office, which needed the money to buy ventilators. Though the pair and their three children were in good health and doing their best to be model citizens, the quarantine did eventually take an understandable emotional toll.
In an episode of Live with Kelly and Ryan, Ripa broke down into tears and revealed that her children weren't being affectionate — and two of them wouldn't even speak to her. "I'm not going to lie, okay? I'm going to let you in on a little secret: I'm currently not speaking to two of my three kids. I'm not talking to two of them," she said (via People), adding, "My kids, like, won't hug me. And I'm like, 'Guys, we've all been in lockdown together. We're fine. You can give me a hug. It's fine.'"
Even though times are tough, there has been a little sweetness. In an Instagram birthday tribute to Consuelos, Ripa gushed, "There's nobody I'd rather be locked down with than you."
Nobody likes a hypocrite ... especially during quarantine
There's a reason Jennifer Lopez can hoist her spandexed body up on a stripper pole like a seagull effortlessly gliding towards the sunset and somehow still hold a tune. The girl has a serious workout regimen, and one that does not pause for a pandemic — yikes! According to Page Six, the star and her fiancé, Alex Rodriguez, were met with criticism in April 2020, when they released a video asking people to stay home during the pandemic, yet were spotted leaving a Miami gym despite the fact that Florida had issued a stay-at-home order.
"We want you to please stay at home to stop the spread of COVID-19," Lopez said in the video. "You know, we're staying home to protect those on the front lines, the doctors, the nurses, and technicians that are working so hard to save lives at our hospitals."
Except they weren't staying home. According to the tabloid, the gym wasn't actually open but reportedly made an exception for the stars. It's unclear how many workers were there at the time, but the pair's security detail did take precautions like using what looked like sanitizing wipes to open the car's doors and wearing protective masks.
Cardi B and Offset are watching Tiger King and not much else during quarantine
Cardi B has been spending her time in quarantine watching Tiger King with her husband, Offset, and she may feed her husband to the tigers soon if she doesn't get some. For all we know (well, based on what Cardi has so proudly tweeted), the last time she was intimate with her rapper beau was sometime between the first and second episode of the series, when she explained, "I'm on the second episode and I'm a little lost cause I started f**king." That was on March 26, 2020, but by April, the star was complaining that she couldn't even do it anymore. Listen, there are limited quarantine activities.
According to Page Six, Cardi B revealed on Instagram, "I have sex so many times, and now I'm on my period, I can't even f ** k ... I miss my family and I miss my friends ... I've never been so alone ... I just watch documentaries and watch movies." Hopefully, that final Tiger King follow-up episode helped entertain the rappers for a little bit, because we know her and Offset have been painfully bored, too. To pass the time, the Migos rapper has been practicing his blunt rolling skills. "Look how bored he is — look at how many blunts he rolled already. Back-to-back, for no damn reason," Cardi said in an Instagram video.
Hey, at least they have that massive new house to hang out in.
Quarantine saw Carey Hart and Pink dealing with a sick toddler
Pink and Carey Hart didn't just have to deal with the reality of getting sick themselves, they also had to deal with the reality of caring for sick children during quarantine. Both the pop singer and her three-year-old son, Jameson, caught the novel coronavirus and were massively ill.
In an April 2020 Instagram Live session, Pink revealed (via The Hollywood Reporter) that her son had "a fever for three weeks and diarrhea and then constipation and then throwing up and pale and listless and lethargic and all the things that scare the bejeezus out of you as a mama," even though children largely don't get the brunt of symptoms. The mother-of-two admitted that this caused her to spend "many nights where I've cried and I've never prayed more in my life."
In an interview with SiriusXM's The Jason Ellis Show, Hart explained that Pink was also pretty sick, especially because she had a preexisting condition. "My wife got it pretty bad as well ... She has asthma. It totally attacked her lungs and her chest, and she was having a hard time breathing," he said. Thankfully, the family did recover, and Pink announced in an Instagram post that she made a hefty donation of $1 million split between the City of Los Angeles Mayor's Emergency COVID-19 Crisis Fund and the Temple University Hospital Emergency Fund.
