The Truth About Rachel McAdams' Son
Although she has spent nearly two decades in the spotlight, Rachel McAdams has managed to keep much of her personal life private. However, in April 2020, the Canadian actress revealed rare details about her family's life in lockdown during the Heroes of Health: COVID-19 Stream-a-Thon. McAdams noted that social distancing hasn't been too stressful because her toddler son, whom she shares with boyfriend and screenwriter Jamie Linden, offers a wealth of entertainment.
"I have a very welcome distraction in my son, who is 2," McAdams explained (via Entertainment Tonight). "That's pretty much what I do... all the time. He's so entertaining! I thought about, 'Would I rather be alone in quarantine? Or with my family?' You know, there are days sure, but I mean I would be so bored without him around to make it so fun."
She continued, "We live out in the country, so there's a little farm down the road, so we can go and look at the animals. We've been doing some planting, some okra, well, I mean, I do the planting and he snacks most of the day." Previously, in conversation with The Sunday Times U.K., McAdams said she wants to keep her son's life private, even if hers isn't. But this brief insight into their daily life — especially amid the coronavirus pandemic — proves Hollywood stars really are just like us.
Rachel McAdams didn't want to become a mother "before it was the right time"
While Rachel McAdams didn't immediately confirm her son's birth, which happened in April 2018, the Mean Girls star eventually spoke to The Sunday Times U.K. in August 2018, revealing that she "waited a long time" to become a mother because she "didn't want to do it before it was the right time."
"It's the greatest thing that's ever happened to me, hands down. [People say] your life is not your own any more. But I had 39 years of me, I was sick of me, I was so happy to put the focus on some other person," McAdams said.
She added, "I'm having more fun being a mum than I've ever had. Everything about it is interesting and exciting and inspiring to me. Even the tough days. There's something delightful about them."
While McAdams might appear glamorous on the red carpet, the Wedding Crashers star admitted to the outlet that her everyday attire isn't quite so elegant. "I have clothes on and that's a good thing. I don't even know what I'm wearing today," she explained. "The shoes are held together with glue. Isn't that sad? I need to get a life."
Well, if you can't get a life, you might as well make one, right?
Rachel McAdams paired Versace with breast pumps for a post-pregnancy photoshoot
Eight months after Rachel McAdams gave birth to her first child, the About Time actress appeared on the cover of Girls. Girls. Girls. magazine. During the cover shoot, photographer Claire Rothstein snapped pictures of a Versace-clad McAdams rocking breast pumps in an effort to normalize this natural, albeit controversial, act.
"A million reasons why I wanted to post this picture," Rothstein captioned the now infamous image on Instagram. "Obviously #rachelmcadams looks incredible and was quite literally the dream to work with but also this shoot was about 6 months post her giving birth to her son, so between shots she was expressing/pumping as still breastfeeding."
"We had a mutual appreciation disagreement about whose idea it was to take this picture but I'm still sure it was hers which makes me love her even more," Rothstein added. "Breastfeeding is the most normal thing in the world and I can't for the life of me imagine why or how it is ever frowned upon or scared of."
Rothstein continued, "I don't even think it needs explaining but just wanted to put this out there, as if it even changes one person's perception of something so natural, so normal, so amazing then that's great. Besides she's wearing Versace and @bulgariofficial diamonds and is just f**king major. Big shout out to all the girls."
Good call, Ms. Rothstein, because McAdams makes motherhood look good.
