This Is Why Michael Buble's Wife Is Defending Their Marriage
Singer Michael Buble and his wife, Argentina native Luisana Lopilato, have been through a lot since tying the knot in 2011. One of their biggest trials occurred in November 2016, when their then-3-year-old son, Noah, was diagnosed with cancer. The big brother to the couple's other children — Elias and Vida — was declared cancer-free in April 2017, a reversal of fortune his parents don't take for granted. "When things like those that happened to us occur, your take on life changes," Lopilato said at a news conference, E! News reported. "It happened to us. Now I value life much more, the now and the today."
Perhaps Lopilato's new lease on life explains why she is fed up with critics who questioned her marriage in response to the couple's Instagram Live session from April 2020. Some followers didn't appreciate how the "Haven't Met You Yet" singer seemingly elbowed and handled Lopilato in the clip, and now the incident has become a full-blown controversy. But is the criticism warranted? We'll leave that up to public opinion, but if you ask Michael Buble's wife, the answer is a hard no.
Luisana Lopilato sets the record straight
For those who haven't seen the Instagram clip in question, it shows Michael Buble elbowing Luisana Lopilato in the side after she appears to talk over him, prompting her to say "sorry" in Spanish. The Grammy winner then pulls Lopilato closer to him in what some people believe to be an aggressive manner, sparking widespread criticism online. "This makes me very uncomfortable and very sad," one person tweeted, while someone else said, "It somewhat looks like he's kidding.. but she legitimately says sorry and the look he gives, in the beginning, is unsettling..."
Sensing the growing criticism, Lopilato took to Instagram on April 12, 2020, to set the record straight in a statement that was translated from Spanish to English by Hola! magazine. "It's incredible how some people are!!" she said. "While we are in the middle of a pandemic, and living our lives under quarantine, angst, fear, loneliness, and uncertainty of all kinds!"
She continued, "[I] come out every day with my husband to try to do [Instagram] lives to bring some happiness, entertainment, longing, and we have to put up with, hear and see what people with ill intentions are posting without knowing anything about our family and after all the pain that we have experienced, I want you all to know that I have no doubts about who my husband is and that I would choose him again a thousand times over!"
Luisana Lopilato appreciates the concern
Luisana Lopilato's Instagram message also called out an unidentified person who is supposedly "causing harm and taking advantage of this pandemic where people are suffering, dying and under quarantine, to gain fame and more followers," and accused them of "sharing lies." However, Lopilato's follow-up statement was less confrontational, with the actress stating in a video (via Entertainment Tonight), "Thank you for your concern. It's really important that we're all mindful of the things that we brought up, which I don't suffer from. She continued, as Michael Buble stood beside her, "But, we should be vigilant to help women who are having a difficult time ... Your messages show me once again all the love that you have for me and for us. With that, thank you but that's not my case."
Despite Lopilato's reassurance to fans, some people still have concerns about the couple's relationship. A few followers brought up another Instagram Live clip from March 2020, when Buble expressed irritation at his wife for being two minutes late to film. "Honestly, I can't wait till you get to see the divorce on this. Cause honestly, I'm telling you right now, if you think this is an act, it's not an act," he told viewers. "My God." He also turned to Lopilato when she entered the frame and told her, "you're so dead to me."
Of course, fans can't do anything but speculate, and Lopilato has reiterated that she doesn't fear for her safety.
