The Real Reason Meghan Markle Hasn't Seen Her Mother Since Moving To LA
Following Meghan Markle and Prince Harry's official departure from the royal family, the former actress is back in her home town of Los Angeles with her husband and their son, Archie. However, Markle reportedly hasn't even seen her mother yet! Though the two live just a short car ride away these days, Markle and Harry have decided not to put Markle's mother, Doria Ragland, at risk by visiting her during the coronavirus pandemic.
Markle and Harry have been self-isolating in their new home with their baby boy after making the move from Vancouver Island, where they had been hiding out after leaving the British royal family. According to The Sun, the couple is dying to see Ragland, but they were advised not to socialize with her in light of the pandemic.
This isolation from her mother has left Markle "absolutely heartbroken," a source told the British paper. "After all, one of the main reasons she decided to live in LA was to be near her mum," the source added. "Because of her age, Doria obviously has to be careful and Meghan and Harry are sticking rigidly to all formal guidelines when it comes to coronavirus."
The source continued, "They've been WhatsApping and FaceTiming almost daily but obviously it's not the same."
Meghan Markle is close to her mom
Fans know that Meghan Markle has always been close to her mother. At the former Suits actress' royal wedding to Prince Harry on May 19, 2018, Doria Ragland was the only member of her family who was present. There was quite a bit of controversy surrounding that fact as it was widely reported that Markle's dad, Thomas Markle, faked a heart attack to skip the wedding because he was embarrassed over a fake photo scandal he orchestrated (via Marie Claire).
After the royal wedding, things only turned more sour between Markle and her family members. When her father bad-mouthed her and the royal family to the British press, she pretty much severed all ties with her father. Likewise, she stopped speaking to half-sister Samantha Markle, who has constantly spoken ill of Markle and even threatened to release a book about her (via The Sun).
Markle's nephew, Tyler Dooley (who runs a marijuana business and names his strains after Markle and her immediate family), has also bashed her to the media, while her other nephew, Thomas Dooley, made headlines in 2019 when he was arrested for walking around the streets while drugged out and naked, per the Daily News.
Meghan Markle lives near her estranged family
Now that she's fully established in Los Angeles with her family of three, Meghan Markle is closer to her estranged relatives than she was when she and Prince Harry lived across the pond. However, she's staying away from the drama and sticking to her goals of pursuing charity work with her prince once the coronavirus crisis is over.
"Meghan has been using her time in isolation to plan her future and has been exploring various good causes she could align herself with," a source told The Sun, adding that while the former TV star is doing voiceover work for Disney, she has no plans of returning to the screen as an actress. "She has also had a big conference call with her agents and told them that at the moment she doesn't wish to be considered for any acting roles," the insider said of Markle. "Those days are gone."
It definitely seems like Markle is adamant about finding her new normal as she and Harry kickstart this new phase of their lives.
