The Truth About Drake And Sophie Brussaux's Relationship
Aubrey "Drake" Graham finally shared public photos of his 2-year-old son Adonis for the very first time via Instagram on March 29, 2020. With curly blonde hair and bright blue eyes, Adonis is the spitting image of Drake's mom, Sandi.
One of the photos on Drake's page even features Adonis's mom, Sophie Brussaux, standing alongside him and their son. In the caption, Drake wrote, "I love and miss my beautiful family and friends and I can't wait for the joyful day when we are all able to reunite." Although Drake appears to have his own private plane, the COVID-19 pandemic may be preventing him from seeing his son and Brussaux, who are reportedly based overseas, per Metro UK.
Given Adonis and Brussaux's extremely rocky and drama-filled introduction to the world back in 2018, these photos are a major step forward. In light of this development, here's everything you need to know about Sophie Brussaux and her relationship with Drake.
Sophie Brussaux is a talented person
Before we get to the relationship between Sophie Brussaux and Drake, here's a bit about her background: She reportedly lives in Paris, France with Adonis, and she was born and raised in Bordeaux. The rapper's ex used to work in adult film and now enjoys a career as a painter under the name "Sophie B.," creating her pieces out of a studio in Bordeaux.
Brussaux is "an award-winning and published artist who combines her fascination for cultural & social paradigms with a love of colorful pop-art & symbolism," according to her website. "She has become renowned for her vivid use of acrylics, oils, spray paints, palette knife. She has exhibited in formal and informal places ranging from art-loving nightclubs to museums."
In addition to painting, Brussaux is the founder and artistic director of Arts Help, a non-profit organization. She describes herself as an activist and a feminist, and reportedly has degrees in International Affairs and Wealth Management, according to OK! Magazine.
Despite the mom's public Instagram profile and work endeavors, she seemingly appreciates her privacy. Like Drake, she has refrained from posting photos of Adonis on social media, but after her ex shared his own set of pictures, Brussaux followed suit with several adorable photos of the baby boy. She even joked about the fact that Adonis's blond hair and blue eyes look nothing like his parents — apparently, she has a sense of humor!
Drake met Sophie Brussaux when he was on tour
As for how Drake and Sophie Brussaux met, the fateful hangout reportedly occurred while the rapper was on his Boy Meets World tour in 2017. During a stop in Amsterdam in late January, he was spotted on a date at a Japanese restaurant with Sophie, as TMZ noted. But the pair were never in a relationship — Drake called her a "fluke" in his 2020 track, "When to Say When," and he admitted during an appearance on HBO's The Shop in 2018 that Brussaux "never met" his beloved mom before the pregnancy.
Adonis was born on Oct. 12, 2017, but Drake kept the situation private from the public. Reports of his son didn't surface until 2018 when rival rapper, Pusha T, called Drake out for his secret on the track, "The Story of Adidon." In a 2019 interview with Rap Radar, Drake explained that he'd kept his son's birth from the public because he wasn't sure that he was the father. Indeed, his reps told TMZ in 2017 that they suspected Brussaux of using Drake to get into the United States. "She's one of many women claiming he got them pregnant," they said at the time.
Months later, Drake publicly claimed Adonis for the first time. On the song "Emotionless," he rapped by way of explanation, "I wasn't hiding my kid from the world, I was hiding the world from my kid."
Sophie Brussaux and Drake are doing their best to co-parent
Drake and Sophie Brussaux are now co-parenting Adonis, though they're still not in a relationship. Things have been dicey between the two in the past — not only did the rapper's rep tell Hollywood Life in May 2017 that Drake didn't believe Adonis was his child, but he also explained that it'd been challenging to make things work with Brussaux.
"I'm still learning to communicate with a woman who, you know, we've had our moments," the Toronto native said during an appearance on HBO's The Shop (via XXL Magazine). "I do want to be able to explain to my son what happened." He continued, "But I don't have any desire for him to not love his mother. I don't ever want the world to be angry at his mother. We have found ourselves in a situation and we are both equally responsible. Now, I'm just really excited to be a great father." He added that, no matter what, he has "unconditional love" for the mother of his child.
Despite the initial road bumps, by October 2019, Drake was helping host Adonis' second birthday party. And based on the star's most recent social media posts gushing over his son, it looks like this little modern family is finally on good terms.
