The Truth About Love Is Blind's Giannina And Damian's Relationship
It's pretty safe to say that Giannina Gibelli and Damian Powers had one of the most volatile relationships on Netflix's Love Is Blind. [Warning: spoilers ahead!] The pair had awkward blow-ups about sex, meeting the parents, and so much more, and their wedding eventually ended with Gibelli dramatically running away from the ceremony after being rejected by Powers. Fans were left with a lot of questions after the show's wrapped like: What really went down at the wedding? Are these two still together today? And if so, HOW?
As viewers saw on the Love Is Blind reunion, Powers and Gibelli were one of only three couples to remain together after the show/ social experiment came to an end. However, unlike the other two couples who survived (including fan favorites Lauren and Cameron), Powers and Gibelli didn't get married. Instead, they're taking things slow as a regular couple. Let's explore what Giannina and Damian's relationship has really been like outside of the show.
Giannina and Damian's wedding drama was real
At Giannina Gibelli and Damian Powers' wedding, Gibelli said "I do" and Powers said "I do not." It was a dramatic moment, but viewers also couldn't help but notice one continuity error that made the whole scene look potentially fake.
After Powers turned Gibelli down, she ran out of the building and into the streets of Atlanta, getting mud on her wedding dress in the process. But later, when Gibelli returned to the venue and fought it out with Powers, the mud had mysteriously disappeared from her dress. People accused the show of being scripted.
A Love Is Blind producer explained that the continuity error was, in fact, due to the fact that there were four hours of wedding drama to condense into a few minutes of the show. Gibelli was outside, being consoled by her mom, for "45 minutes — maybe even an hour," producer Chris Coelen told Metro UK. Then, they stopped in the bathroom, where Gibelli's mom cleaned the dress. By the time the couple came back to the ballroom, two hours had passed; the wedding guests were gone and the chairs were packed up.
Coelen added that Gibelli was "stewing, steaming and destroyed emotionally" by Powers' rejection. But, despite it all, they managed to show up to the Love Is Blind reunion seemingly happier than ever.
Giannina reached out to Damian after the breakup
On the Love is Blind reunion, Giannina Gibelli said that she and Damian Powers decided to give their relationship another go. "We are so together," Gibelli said (via Cosmopolitan). "Like, every single day, waking up next to each other and going to the gym together. I don't want to lose this, and I didn't."
Gibelli explained to E! News how she and Powers ended up back in each other's arms. "After everything went down, I reached out to him because I just wanted to see where we stand. Can we be friends? What happened? Like let's have a conversation where we're not riled up and we're just talking as normal people," Gibelli told the outlet.
She added, "And then we just talked it out, and we understood where the other person was coming from, 'cause there were so many beautiful moments, and that's the reason why we're still together now. We just snuck back into our apartment. He snuck us back in, and we like held each other and healed, and we haven't been apart since."
Giannina and Damian say their relationship is healthier now
With all the fights that Giannina Gibelli and Damian Powers endured on Love Is Blind, you might be wondering whether their relationship is equally volatile now. However, both Gibelli and Powers have explained that their difficulties during their engagement helped them grow into a healthier couple.
In fact, Gibelli has even made it clear that she doesn't really regret what she said during the couple's infamous fight about their sex life because it led to more open communication. "I knew then that he was my guy because his reaction wasn't defensive," she told People. "He's never [held it against me], and we've learned to communicate really well. We worked through that."
Similarly, Powers told E! News that he doesn't regret saying no at the altar, even though it was "the hardest thing I've ever had to do."
"If I could go back that day and take away that pain from her, 100% I would, but the decision was important for us to have a healthy relationship outside of there, to be best friends first," Powers said.
"Everything happens for a reason," Gibelli added.
Giannina and Damian still spend loads of time together
Fans don't have make wild guesses about whether Giannina Gibelli and Damian Powers are still together anymore because the couple isn't shy about sharing their relationship on social media. Recently, they threw fans for a loop when they shared photos that appeared to show them self-isolating separately during the coronavirus outbreak. But, soon after, Gibelli shared photos on Instagram of her and Powers cuddled in bed and drinking smoothies — so it seems that they are weathering the pandemic together after all (via Metro UK).
The couple even recently completed the viral TikTok "flip the switch" challenge, in which couples switch outfits while playing Drake's "Flip the Switch." Gibelli shared the video on her TikTok, and it's almost NSFW — it features Gibelli, then Powers, in a very teeny-tiny towel.
Now that Gibelli and Powers aren't on the extremely-rushed timeline of Love Is Blind, they can take relationship milestones at their own pace. "I think we're in a really good place right now," Gibelli told People. "We don't live together or anything, so maybe that could be the next step."
She added, "I'm someone that definitely lives day by day — but I know that I want my days to be with him."
