The Real Reason Meghan Markle Is Considered Impossible To Work With
From the moment she was first spotted with Prince Harry, Meghan Markle was deemed a Hollywood diva. The 38-year-old actress went from playing the desirable Rachel Zane in the USA Network show Suits to walking alongside Britain's royal family — and not everyone was pleased about it. As soon as she and "H" (as she calls him) tied the knot on May 19, 2018, the hate against Markle only escalated. Kensington Palace insiders even deemed her "diva duchess" and "duchess difficult," according to various U.K. outlets.
As The Sun reported, royal staffers accused Markle of making outlandish requests and attempting to defy royal etiquette and custom by bringing in modern ideas. While this doesn't sound like such a bad thing, Markle's tenacity apparently took the family and their employees by surprise, especially when they compared her ways to those of "duchess of dazzle" Kate Middleton, who already started training to be England's next queen.
Meghan Markle encounters some hurdles
In her first year as Duchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle lost four of her immediate staffers, per Yahoo Style U.K. This prompted fans to believe she is tough to work with and must've made life so difficult for her aides that they quit! A source claimed to People in 2019 that there was no bad blood between the workers and their famous boss, but fans still aren't so sure. To make things worse, she supposedly began feuding with the Duchess of Cambridge, causing true royal fans to shun her, according to Fox News.
Throughout her time in the spotlight, the world has been ruthless to Markle, pinning her as a monster boss and social-climbing starlet. Recently, on the Hollywood Raw podcast, Markle's 2005 Cuts co-star Simon Rex admitted he was offered $70,000 by a British tabloid to lie about Markle and say they "hooked up." Rex explained, "I said no to a lot of money because I didn't feel right lying and f*****g up the royal f*****g family."
Meghan Markle has been called a 'wild card'
While Meghan Markle's former Suits co-stars seem to have no problem with the actress, some other stars just can't stand her. In December 2017, Wendy Williams told her show audience that, in her eyes, Markle is "a bit of a wild card," because she went from being "the Deal of No Deal girl" to putting on the princess card with Prince Harry by her side, according to Vanity Fair.
British TV personality Piers Morgan has also slammed Markle various times. In 2018, he wrote an entire op-ed for the Daily Mail claiming that he and Markle were friends before she met Harry, but when he reached out after that, she ghosted him! Markle never publicly responded to any of his remarks. Adding to the hate, the Mirror reported that British journalist Katie Hopkins has, over the years, called Markle "Instagram-addicted" and "a budget Princess Di with an Oscar winning innocent face."
As Radar Online reported, even the royal family saw Markle as too demanding. A royal insider told the outlet that Prince William was angered by the way in which Markle allegedly turned Prince Harry against his royal traditions. Now that Markle and Harry stepped down as senior royals to pursue life as financially independent parents to son Archie, the criticism has not ceased. Radar claimed that William and wife Kate are "so happy" the pair is gone after all the drama the former Hollywood star caused for the family. Yikes!
How Meghan Markle and Prince Harry feel about all the negativity
Meghan Markle has mostly stayed silent amid the ongoing backlash, but in a jaw-dropping ITV documentary, Harry & Meghan: An African Journey, she admitted royal life was harder than she expected. She said she couldn't get used to the British "stiff upper lip," according to PopSugar. "It's not enough just to survive something, right? That's not the point of life," Markle said of the intense spotlight, almost in tears.
In the same interview, Prince Harry defended his wife, saying that the negative media backlash she received while in the British spotlight reminds him of the hate his own mother, the late Princess Diana, received right before she died in a car crash while chased by paparazzi. "Part of this job is putting on a brave face but, for me and my wife, there is a lot of stuff that hurts, especially when the majority of it is untrue," Harry said.
The pair's candid talk angered and worried the royal family, Express reported, but Markle and Harry continued to stand up for themselves — and just months later, said goodbye to their royal titles.
