Coronavirus shut down Camila Cabello's movie
Coronavirus has affected Camila Cabello in an unexpected way, thanks to the production shutdown of a movie she's starring in. Per The Hollywood Reporter, production of Sony's live-action version of Cinderella, in which Cabello is set to play the leading role, has been stopped for at least two weeks. According to the publication, "The Hollywood Reporter understands that it was the weekend addition of the U.K. to the European countries falling under Donald Trump's new travel ban to the U.S. that forced the studio to make the decision." As the movie is set to feature so many performers from the United States, it likely became impossible to get the cast all together in the United Kingdom.
Cabello's fairytale reboot was set to be released in early 2021, but the release date could be pushed back significantly due to the current pause on filming. While the delay likely won't have any kind of lasting effect on he popstar-turned-actor's career, the overall strain that the coronavirus is placing on many aspects of everyone's life might. Following the announcement that Cinderella was halting production, Cabello took to Instagram to reveal that she's taken up meditation to cope with anxiety and stress in uncertain times. The pop star wrote, "love you guys, please stay safe," showing that she's also thinking of her fans right now.
Idris Elba tested positive for COVID-19, but he's not panicking
British actor Idris Elba was among the first Hollywood stars to test positive for coronavirus. He took to Twitter to share the news and wrote, "This morning I tested positive for Covid 19. I feel ok, I have no symptoms so far but have been isolated since I found out about my possible exposure to the virus." His tweet continued, "Stay home people and be pragmatic. I will keep you updated on how I'm doing." He finished off his message by simply writing, "No panic," encouraging readers to stay as calm as possible during the outbreak.
The actor also posted a video filmed with his wife, Sabrina Dhowre Elba, to announce the news, and revealed, "Sabrina hasn't been tested and she's doing okay." He also explained that the reason he took the test, despite not having any symptoms, was because he'd come into contact with someone who tested positive for coronavirus. As such, Elba revealed that he was self-isolating. He also used his platform to encourage people to support one another during such a difficult time. "Now's the time for solidarity," he told his fans.
Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson's Australian quarantine
When Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson revealed that they tested positive for coronavirus, they were the first major Hollywood celebrities to do so. The A-List couple was in Queensland, Australia, where Hanks was working on Baz Luhrmann's next movie, a biopic about Elvis Presley. Hanks was set to play Presley's manager, Colonel Tom Parker, in the movie, which has currently suspended production amid coronavirus concerns. As the first celebrities to experience COVID-19, Hanks and Wilson found themselves discussing their health concerns with a worldwide audience. Hanks' representative told CNN that the couple has since left hospital to continue to self-quarantine at their home in Australia.
Being thrust into the news cycle for such a scary reason, Hanks and Wilson have inadvertently become spokespeople for taking precautions against COVID-19. As Hanks wrote on Instagram, "We felt a bit tired, like we had colds, and some body aches. Rita had some chills that came and went. Slight fevers too." Sensibly, the Oscar-winning actor explained, "We Hanks' will be tested, observed, and isolated for as long as public health and safety requires." With such a huge worldwide fanbase, Hanks' wise-words will have helped so many people, though he probably never expected his career to take this particular turn.
Avril Lavigne's world cancellation
Avril Lavigne was set to embark upon a huge world tour, following the release of her comeback album, Head Above Water. However, the singer was forced to cancel her trip amid coronavirus concerns. The singer shared the sad news with fans on Twitter, writing, "As you all are aware, governments across Europe have continued to impose restrictions banning large public gatherings because of the continued spread of the coronavirus. Now the United States of America has implemented its own travel ban. With these restrictions in place it means that I am no longer able to bring the Head Above Water Tour to Europe and the United Kingdom. And it sucks!"
Lavigne was set to reconnect with her fans following years of personal health crises. She was diagnosed with Lyme disease in 2014, and in 2015 told People that fans noticed the singer's absence, which led to some leaked private correspondence going viral. "They were asking about me since I was MIA, so I mentioned to one fan directly [in a Twitter DM] that I wasn't feeling good," she told the tab. As coronavirus is thought to be particularly dangerous to chronically ill and immunocompromised patients, Lavigne has to think of her own health in the coming months, as well as that of her fans. As she explained on Twitter, "My main concern continues to be your health and safety and I want to come back and rock out with you at another time when everyone can enjoy the shows without worry."
Jared Leto's isolation
Suicide Squad actor Jared Leto's life was changed in a very unexpected way due to the coronavirus outbreak. On March 17, 2020, Leto tweeted, "Wow. 12 days ago I began a silent meditation in the desert. We were totally isolated. No phone, no communication etc. We had no idea what was happening outside the facility." During that time, attempts to stop the spread of COVID-19 expanded to travel bans, and events were canceled en mass. Having been off-the-grid for almost two weeks, Leto revealed, "Walked out yesterday into a very different world. One that's been changed forever. Mind blowing — to say the least."
The actor also shared that since he turned his phone back on, he's been overwhelmed with texts and phone calls from "all around the globe." Despite emerging from his retreat to a seemingly very different situation, and a much larger COVID-19 threat, Leto let fans know he was thinking of them in his new normal. The Dallas Buyers Club star wrote, "Hope you and yours are ok. Sending positive energy to all. Stay inside. Stay safe."
Katy Perry's pregnancy scare
As the worldwide implications of the coronavirus continued to unfold, Katy Perry announced her first pregnancy. The "Roar" singer was also in Sydney, Australia, where she had been carrying out a number of press engagements. However, according to the Daily Mail, Perry quickly changed her plans and canceled her work commitments after a coronavirus scare at her record label. The publication also noted, "Tom Hanks and his wife, Rita Wilson, who both tested positive for coronavirus on Thursday, had stayed at the same hotel just days ago." After reportedly spending 24 hours locked down in her hotel room, the singer traveled to the airport and returned home to the United States.
According to the BBC, when it comes to coronavirus, "Pregnant women join other at-risk groups including the over-70s and younger people with underlying conditions." As Perry is currently expecting a baby with Orlando Bloom, it's understandable that she might want to take extra precautions regarding COVID-19. While the singer has been forced to drastically alter her work plans, it makes sense as she needs to put herself first right now, as do many other people who also find themselves in at-risk groups.
Kristofer Hivju is on lockdown
Actor Kristofer Hivju revealed on Instagram that he had tested positive for coronavirus. The Norwegian star is most famous for his role as Tormund Giantsbane on Game of Thrones. The diagnosis seemingly affected Hivju's work life massively, especially as he had just begun work on Season 2 of Netflix's The Witcher. In his message to fans, Hivju wrote, "My family and I are self-isolating at home for as long as it takes. We are in good health — I only have mild symptoms of a cold." He went on to urge fans to consider those "at higher risk for who this virus might be a devastating diagnosis."
As Deadline reported, "Netflix will conduct a deep clean of The Witcher set and advised staff to quarantine themselves after actor Kristofer Hivju revealed on Instagram he has tested positive for coronavirus." The show has also paused production for two weeks to try and halt the spread of coronavirus. Hivju was the first cast member to develop the condition, and it's unclear right now whether anyone else on the set has been affected.
Allie X's coronavirus test frustration
Canadian singer Allie X found herself experiencing symptoms of coronavirus after traveling in Europe. The artist wrote on Instagram "I was just in Paris, Berlin and London less then [sic] 2 weeks ago. I have possible symptoms of the virus in the last few days." Allie X also made it clear that the biggest way that the coronavirus had changed her life was in stopping her from taking her music to her fans. She wrote in another post, "Disappointment that I can't go out in the road to play and promote [her album] Cape God." She also noted the huge financial implications that a shutdown will have for workers in every industry as she wrote, "Fear (of lack of income, economic crisis, loved ones getting sick, how I will hold up to getting ill)."
Allie X also found herself unable to get tested for coronavirus, despite displaying symptoms. As she explained on Instagram, "I have spoken to a tele-health doc, my insurance, public health LA county, primary doc, another doc, and NO ONE can tell me how to get tested other than showing up at the ER which is a dangerous option for someone who has questionable/mild symptoms."
Granted, Allie X's anecdotal experience with getting a COVID-19 test is understandably frustrating. But the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has made a tracker and directions for local resources available for those who have questions about testing.
Heidi Klum and her husband have socially distanced
Former Project Runway host Heidi Klum married musician Tom Kaulitz in secret in 2019, and the couple has remained loved-up ever since. However, coronavirus has immeasurably affected their relationship as both Klum and Kaulitz are in a self-quarantine right, as of this writing. Sharing a video of herself kissing her husband through a pane of glass, Klum wrote on Instagram, "Like many of you, I also have been sick all week and, unfortunately, my husband who returned from his tour a couple of days ago is also feeling ill. To be safe, we are staying apart until we get the results of our Coronavirus tests." She went on to explain, "As much as I want to embrace him and kiss him, it is more important to do the right thing and not spread further."
Klum also encouraged her fans to self-isolate if they were feeling ill, even if it meant taking drastic measures like kissing loved ones through windows. She wrote on Instagram, "Social distancing is what we all need to do right now to be responsible citizens of the world. We are all in this together and it is up to us to protect our loved ones, and our neighbors and our communities." Quarantine may be keeping Klum away from her family members, but she's ensuring that others follow her lead.
Justin Trudeau is working from home
CNN confirmed that Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau was self-isolating at home following his wife Sophie Grégoire Trudeau's diagnosis with coronavirus. According to the news outlet, the Prime Minister's wife developed symptoms after carrying out a speaking engagement in the United Kingdom. As a result, Trudeau's office released a statement which said (via CNN), "The Prime Minister is in good health with no symptoms. As a precautionary measure and following the advice of doctors, he will be in isolation for a planned period of 14 days."
Grégoire Trudeau shared an update on her condition and explained (per CNN), "Although I'm experiencing uncomfortable symptoms of the virus, I will be back on my feet soon." She continued, "Being in quarantine at home is nothing compared to other Canadian families who might be going through this and for those facing more serious health concerns." Meanwhile, Trudeau has had to move all of his official duties to his home, "the 22-room Rideau Cottage, a 150-year-old house on the wooded grounds of the governor general's residence near downtown Ottawa," via Reuters. As such, the Prime Minister has apparently been taking meetings with world leaders on the telephone and via the internet, which is a major change from his usual duties.
Arnold Schwarzenegger's advice for those over 65
In an Instagram post, Terminator star Arnold Schwarzenegger revealed how the coronavirus had affected his day to day life. The former governor of California was forced to make some changes to protect himself and his family, as he explained, "After you're 65, you're not allowed out of the house anymore in California, so we stay home, and we eat here. ... We don't go out. We don't go to restaurants. We don't do anything like that anymore here." Basically, the actor encouraged everyone like himself to abide by the recommended COVID-19 precautions for those in a vulnerable category, and to self-isolate as much as possible.
In a follow-up post, Schwarzenegger revealed that there was one mode of transport he was using to leave the house and get some exercise. The star wrote, "Doctors and experts say that riding my bike outside is OK so it's the only way I'm leaving the house, but if you do ride your bike or go for a walk, don't stop, avoid social contact. Apologies to everyone but I won't be stopping on my rides for selfies. Stay positive, stay home as much as possible." Basically, one of the most recognizable men in the world has been forced to change his routines to stay healthy amid the coronavirus outbreak, and we could all learn a lot from him.
Olga Kurylenko didn't rush to the hospital
Bond girl Olga Kurylenko took to Instagram to reveal, "Locked up at home after having tested positive for Coronavirus. I've actually been ill for almost a week now. Fever and fatigue are my main symptoms. Take care of yourself and do take this seriously!" The actor also answered questions from fans regarding her health, and how she's been coping with the diagnosis, as the Oblivion star explained, "Why I'm not in hospital? Because hospitals are full and they are only taking patients that are struggling with life, if I understand correctly. I was told that if I get worse to call an ambulance."
Despite not being admitted to hospital, Kurylenko confirmed the severity of her COVID-19 infection by telling fans, "my fever was over 39°C [or 102.2°F]." According to the Daily Mail, the actress is currently based in London, and is following the advice set out by the government for anyone dealing with coronavirus. A star like Kurylenko probably didn't expect to find herself quarantined, and recovering from the virus in self-isolation. Sharing an important update, Kurylenko revealed, "For a week my temperature was stable 38°C [or 100.4°F]. Sometimes up to 38.5 [or 101.3°F]. Today it's come down." Hopefully, the actress is on the mend, and she'll soon regain some normality in her life.
