Celebs Who Are Going To Extreme Lengths To Self-Quarantine
As coronavirus (a.k.a. COVID-19) moves around the world, extreme precautions are becoming more and more encouraged to prevent further spread of the deadly virus. As the New York Post reminds readers, self-quarantining is one of the best ways to stop spreading contagions and keep people from flooding hospitals or emergency rooms. As of March 13, there were 5,000 COVID-19 related deaths (per the Post), so with that looming number in mind, the best thing to do at this point is to stay at home whenever possible.
The glitz and glam of celebrity life doesn't spare anyone from the virus, and just like the rest of us, famous people are canceling events, jetting back home, and locking their doors. While some celebs have admitted to having COVID-19, others are going to great lengths to self-quarantine as a form of protection. So here are celebrities who have decided to self-quarantine, either as a precaution or because they're feeling sick and don't want to risk spreading the virus to others.
Orlando Bloom and Katy Perry head home
Orlando Bloom was in Prague shooting Carnival Row when the entire cast and crew decided to shut down production and fly to their respective homes, as per Vanity Fair. Bloom shared on his Instagram Story that he wanted "to get in before the quarantine." Meanwhile, his pregnant fiancée Katy Perry jetted out of Australia where she was performing a benefit concert to also get back to the U.S. According to People, Perry said, "Big love everybody, stay safe out there! Self-quarantine. It seems really crazy actually this whole corona thing, but do the right thing by you and your family and stay safe."
Speaking of Australia, Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson tested positive for the virus while Hanks was working on a movie down under. Hanks took to Instagram to share that they're staying in isolation there to avoid infecting others. He wrote, "We have Covid-19 and are in isolation so we do not spread it to anyone else. There are those for whom it could lead to a very serious illness. We are taking it one-day-at-a-time. There are things we can all do to get through this by following the advice of experts and taking care of ourselves and each other, no?"
Emily Ratajkowski and her husband hunker down
In New York City, model Emily Ratajkowski and her husband Sebastian Bear-McClard are self-quarantined with their German Shepherd, Colombo, according to Page Six. The model shared a selfie on Instagram with the caption, "Finished Love is Blind (um, wow), ate two frozen pizzas w/ranch, made calls from bed & took family selfies. Day one of working from home." Not a bad way to stay quarantined!
Ratajkowski followed up with another post saying, "Hi folks. Please stay home for the next couple weeks if you are able to and practice social distancing." Meanwhile, another model — Naomi Campbell — got really decked out for a flight from Los Angeles to New York City. She wore an entire hazmat suit with an N95 face mask and gloves, according to Page Six.
In fact, Campbell made headlines last year with a travel video depicting her airplane routine, complete with sanitizing her entire seat area, wearing a mask, and covering her seat with a blanket. This is all before COVID-19 even broke out! By making sure she flies germ-free, she's quite an inspiration to other travelers. (Although FYI, health officials are encouraging Americans to avoid buying face masks, so that actual medical professionals don't run out.)
Charles Barkley and other althetes are self-quarantining
Charles Barkley wasn't feeling well after spending a few days in New York City. According to the New York Post, he arrived in Atlanta and got the advice to stay at home. Barkley said, "I talked to a couple people at Turner and a couple of doctors, and they told me to self-quarantine for the next 48 hours." The NBA star continued, "I started yesterday. This is my second day. I haven't been feeling great and they didn't want me taking any chances. I went and took the coronavirus test late this afternoon. I haven't got the results back yet."
Another athlete, Cristiano Ronaldo, has decided to self-quarantine after teammate Daniele Rugani confirmed he has COVID-19, according to People. Ronaldo was already in Madeira, Portugal, where he was visiting his mother, who recently suffered a stroke. The soccer star has decided to remain there.
Actress Tori Spelling shared on Instagram that she's feeling sick too, though there's no confirmation that she's COVID-positive. As Vanity Fair pointed out, the mother-of-five openly worried about a lack of toilet paper in the house and added, "We have seven butts to wipe." Fortunately, her husband Dean McDermott brought some home, earning the title of "rockstar" for his services.
Justin and Sophie Trudeau remain in isolation
The Prime Minister of Canada Justin Trudeau and his wife Sophie joined the many who are self-quarantining. Sophie actually tested positive for COVID-19, according to People. Her symptoms remain mild and she is feeling well considering the circumstances, but she decided to stay in isolation to protect others. Meanwhile, her husband has decided to do the same even though he is not ill, as People stated: "The Prime Minister is not experiencing symptoms, and so will not be tested for COVID-19, but will remain in isolation for 14 days as a precaution."
Heidi Klum is also staying in after sharing with fans that she's experiencing several of the COVID-19 symptoms. The host of America's Got Talent had a fever with chills, a cough, and a runny nose, CNN reported. Klum said she's tried to get tested for the virus with two different doctors but has been unable to do so and encourages her followers to "stay safe" and "stay home if you don't feel good."
We hope no one else gets added to this list! And to prevent further spreading, it seems best for everyone to follow the suggestion from experts and stay home if possible.
