The Real Reason Eva Mendes Doesn't Post About Her Family On Instagram
As if fans weren't already totally in love with Eva Mendes, she's just given them another reason to adore and respect her all the more by opening up about why she keeps her personal life so private. Mendes met Ryan Gosling almost 10 years ago when they were working on the 2012 film The Place Beyond The Pines. They've remained together as a couple and had two daughters along the way — and even sparked reports that they may be secretly married.
While this is all amazing, what makes them really stand out as a couple is their dedication to privacy. Gosling and Mendes are virtually never seen together in public. As Elle pointed out, "Not even when Gosling was nominated for an Oscar and won a Golden Globe for his role in La La Land in 2017 did the couple choose to make a public appearance together."
In the world of Instagram Stories and reality TV, it seems like a foreign concept to have privacy be such a vital element for a celebrity couple. Fans have gotten so used to the idea of total exposure online, unfiltered thoughts, and tell-alls, so Mendes' dedication to keeping things under-wraps is almost shocking and counter-cultural.
While Mendes is committed to privacy, she does, in fact, have and use social media, especially Instagram. When a fan recently asked for a glimpse of her family, Mendes actually jumped into the comments in order to explain her stance on the topic.
Eva Mendes prioritizes privacy
Eva Mendes was active on Instagram recently, posting photos from a clothing launch with New York & Company. While she looked totally adorable, a fan asked for a little more. According to People, someone wrote, "wouldn't mind an [appearance] by Ryan on this page." Mendes decided to reply and explain both kindly and clearly that a Ryan Gosling sighting was not going to happen anytime soon.
The actress admitted she sometimes struggles with social media, but wrote, "As far as Ryan, I'll only post flash backs of things that are already 'out there' (like pics from movies we did or stuff like that). My man and my kids are private. That's important to me so thanks for getting that. Have a beautiful day. Sending so much love!"
For Mendes, having kids wasn't even a specific dream until she met Gosling. In an April 2019 interview with Women's Health, she spoke about her personal journey into motherhood and said, "Ryan Gosling happened." (If that's not bumper sticker material, I don't know what is.) Mendes continued, "I mean, falling in love with him. Then it made sense for me to have...not kids, but his kids. It was very specific to him."
Of course, every person's journey is unique, and while some feel comfortable sharing photos of their loved ones online, that has not been the case for Mendes. And we totally respect her decision to keep her family life private.
