Princess Charlotte Is Growing Up To Look Exactly Like Princess Diana
The Queen of England has eight great-grandchildren, including Prince William and Kate Middleton's three kids: Prince George, 6, Princess Charlotte, 4, and Prince Louis, 1. The Queen adores all her great-grandkids, as Middleton touched on in ITV's Our Queen at Ninety documentary, noting how her majesty "always leaves a little gift or something" for the youngsters when they visit. "That just shows her love for her family," she explained.
Although Princess Charlotte is lucky enough to have an adoring great-grandmother (as well as a maternal grandma, Carole Middleton), there's a void where it concerns her paternal grandma, Princess Diana, who died in 1997. "I would love her to have met Catherine and to have seen the children grow up," Prince William confessed to British GQ in May 2017. "It makes me sad that she won't, that they will never know her."
The silver lining to this sad situation? Princess Diana lives on through her grandkids, especially where it concerns their facial features. In fact, some might say Princess Charlotte is growing up to look exactly like Princess Diana.
Princess Charlotte and Princess Diana are twins
As the only granddaughter of Princess Diana, it's arguably natural for fans to compare the two. As for their similarities? Both have twinkling blue eyes, similar smirks, and comparable bone structures. Chatter about the pair's seemingly alike features intensified on Princess Charlotte's fourth birthday when the Duchess and Duke of Cambridge released new portraits of the little girl. A childhood photo of Princess Diana was then unearthed, and before you knew it, people were comparing the shots. "She looks like Prince William who resembles Princess Diana," one fan remarked on Twitter. "How Princess Diana would have been doting on Princess Charlotte!!" Someone else said, "Princess Charlotte looks like she got the eyes of Princess Diana."
There are clearly a lot of people who believe Princess Charlotte and Princess Diana look similar, but there are also plenty of fans who think the young girl looks exactly like her great-grandma, the Queen. "Guys can we just take a sec and talk about how princess charlotte looks just like the queen," one commenter captioned a side-by-side of the two, which shows off their round faces and almost identical eyebrows. Someone else remarked, "She looks just like the queen."
Of course, it's not uncommon for kids to look like all of their relatives to some degree.
Princess Charlotte is growing up so fast
Princess Charlotte has always come across as a personality to watch, even at a young age. "Oh, she is very cute, but she has got quite a feisty side," Kate Middleton reportedly joked during celebrations for the Queen's 90th birthday in 2016, when the little girl was just one, per Hello! Magazine. Two years later, a source told People about the royal's budding personality, "She's very sweet and very confident — she's always chatting away." The insider continued to say that the royal is "so polite, but also fun and energetic." Princess Charlotte also reportedly took charge at Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's wedding in May 2018, when one of the little girls in the wedding party tried to go ahead at the wrong time. "She was really sweet," a supposed guest claimed to People about the incident. "There was one girl who wanted to go and she said, 'No you can't go yet. We have to wait until we are asked.' She was really organized!"
Princess Charlotte's mature and fiery personality makes sense when you consider her prestigious full name: Princess Charlotte Elizabeth Diana. That's a lot to live up to for a kid, but it sounds like she's doing one heck of a job so far.
Prince William is keeping Princess Diana's memory alive
It's incredibly sad that Princess Diana's mini-me, Princess Charlotte, won't ever get to meet her grandmother. Prince William touched on this very issue in the 2017 documentary, Diana, Our Mother: Her Life and Legacy, explaining how he's "constantly talking about Granny Diana" with his kids. He added, "We've got more photos up round the house now of her and we talk about her a bit and stuff," per People. The Duke of Cambridge also noted how he tries to incorporate stories of Princess Diana at bedtime, sharing, "It's hard because obviously Catherine didn't know her, so she cannot really provide that — that level of detail. So, I do [when] regularly putting George or Charlotte to bed, talk about her and just try and remind them that there are two grandmothers, there were two grandmothers in their lives, and so it's important that they know who she was and that she existed."
All in all, it's nice to know Princess Charlotte is growing up hearing stories of her lookalike grandmother.
