Body Language Expert Dishes On Brad And Jennifer's SAG Reunion
The fact that Jennifer Aniston and Brad Pitt both won SAG awards on Jan. 19, 2020 isn't the only reason fans were freaking out over the stars. It was their touchy-feely backstage reunion that had people buzzing. And now, a body language expert has weighed in on what their (unbelievably intriguing) interaction can tell us about the (oh-so-exciting) status of their relationship. Dr. Lillian Glass spoke to Page Six about the encounter and admitted that their open affection toward each other makes it seem obvious that their love "never died."
"It's completely mutual and that's what's so beautiful about it," Glass said. "They're completely connected." She added that they were like "two magnets reaching towards each other." And that's what fans noticed when Aniston held Pitt's arms before he took her hand in his own. "She wanted to have that touch — that communication with him, that physical touch towards him — and he's touching her," the doctor explained. "It was reciprocal."
Beyond that, Glass says, "They were exactly in sync in one another's eyes, and that's huge." What else is huge is that the expert feels like their interaction is a hint that they might be open to getting back together. "There was a lot of familiarity. They were not awkward with one another. They were very connected with one another. It wasn't a situation where she looked away or pulled away." Pitt also didn't look away moments before when he couldn't seem to stop watching Aniston onscreen.
Brad Pitt couldn't take his eyes off Jennifer Aniston
Before Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston — aka a duo who was once known as one of Hollywood's hottest power couples — ran into each other backstage at the 2020 SAG awards, the actor was spotted watching his former spouse win the award for outstanding performance by a female actor in a drama series thanks to her work on The Morning Show. Standing backstage at the time, Pitt was seen intently keeping his gaze on a TV that showed his ex-wife on the screen.
Standing alone just a foot or two in front of a massive screen displaying the events occurring in the event's main space, Pitt certainly wasn't trying to hide his interest in his ex-wife's big moment. "You could tell he was proud of her," Dr. Lillian Glass told Page Six. The body language expert also pointed out that Pitt noticeably swallowed while watching Aniston, which is a reaction that can be sparked by the autonomic nervous system and might indicate that the actor was "excited" at the time.
That may be true since this certainly wasn't the first event where he was happy to see his ex...
Jennifer Aniston and Brad Pitt are seeing more of each other
While Jennifer Aniston and Brad Pitt's actions at the SAG awards may be the buzz-worthy celebrity moment of the year (so far,) it wasn't the first time they reunited recently. At the beginning of January 2020, both stars attended the Golden Globes, and Entertainment Tonight's Kevin Frazier bluntly told Pitt on the red carpet what we all were thinking: "Everyone is waiting. They're hoping for this moment where you and Jennifer run into each other." Pitt took the comment in stride, responding with: "I'll run into Jen."
And he did, indeed. The duo met up at the Creative Artists Agency's afterparty. "They said hello very quickly," a source told E! News. "It was brief, but [they] were very cordial and friendly and seemed happy to be there. They approached each other once they saw each other inside and looked happy as they started to hug and say hello. Jen whispered something to Brad, but it wasn't in an affectionate way. They both didn't seem like they wanted to make a big deal about being together in the same room although it was a private party. They were trying to be low-key."
That may be the case, but low key simply isn't possible for a pair who has stirred up headlines for years.
Jennifer Aniston and Brad Pitt have created buzz for years
Jennifer Aniston and Brad Pitt are no strangers to speculation about the nature of their relationship. Married in 2000 and divorced in 2005, he went on to marry Angelina Jolie, whom he reportedly fell for on the set of Mr. and Mrs. Smith while he was still with Aniston. Brangelina broke up in 2016. Aniston was married to actor Justin Theroux for two years before their split in 2017. Through it all, interest in a Pitt and Aniston reunion never waned. Frankly, it seemed like Aniston would never be able to escape Pitt.
"In all fairness, Aniston and Pitt did not make it easy to resist them," Vogue explains. "When their agents set them up in 1998, she was the golden girl on the biggest show on 'must-see TV'. ... He was Tristan from Legends of the Fall. ... At their reported $1 million Malibu wedding in 2000 — replete with heart-shaped fireworks — Aniston promised to make Pitt's favorite banana milkshakes. On Valentine's Day in 2001, he reportedly filled Aniston's Friends dressing room with 1,500 roses that spelled out 'I love my wife.' They left romantics little choice but to be emotionally invested in them for decades to come."
These sweet memories are also likely part of the reason why Aniston still considers their former marriage a good thing.
Jennifer Aniston calls her marriage to Brad Pitt a success
Jennifer Aniston and Brad Pitt may have broken up after just five years of marriage, but that's doesn't mean that it was a time the actress regrets. In fact, despite splitting from both Pitt and Justin Theroux, Aniston still thinks that both of her marriages were a positive experience. "My marriages, they've been very successful, in [my] personal opinion," Aniston told Elle in December 2018. "And when they came to an end, it was a choice that was made because we chose to be happy, and sometimes happiness didn't exist within that arrangement anymore."
"This is our one life and I would not stay in a situation out of fear ... To stay in a marriage based on fear feels like you're doing your one life a disservice," Aniston continued. "When the work has been put in and it doesn't seem that there's an option of it working, that's okay. That's not a failure."
The fact that Aniston doesn't see her past marriage to Pitt as a failure — and the fact that they're still friends whose body language apparently suggests that they may be interested in being something more — will surely continue to give fans hope that these two will spend more time together in the future.
