A Stunning Look Inside Tim Tebow's Wedding Revealed
Tim Tebow is officially off the market! According to People, the pro athlete married former Miss Universe Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters in an "intimate sunset ceremony" in Cape Town, South Africa on Jan. 20, 2020. The wedding comes about a year after Tebow proposed to the South African beauty queen at his family's farm in Florida. Prior to their engagement, the two had only been dating for about six months — but when you know, you know (sorry, Olivia Culpo.)
The former NFL star told People there were "three things" he was looking forward to on the big day. "The first moment I see her in her wedding dress, the first kiss, and the first dance together as man and wife. It's such a special night." He added, "All of my dreams have come true. It was 100 percent worth the wait."
Well, good news, we won't make you wait to find out exactly what went down in Cape Town. Here's an inside look into Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters and Tim Tebow's wedding.
Tim Tebow and Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters wanted a 'traditional' wedding
Days before the wedding, Tim Tebow spoke to Good Morning America about the "final stretch" leading up to the big day. "Wedding planning has been great," he said. "It's been so much fun planning the day and seeing it all come together. We have some really unique moments that will be a part of it. But honestly, I just mostly say 'Yes, babe,'" — smart guy!
So what vibe was the couple going for? In a word: classic. "We wanted to look back at the wedding and see that it was intimate, elegant, and traditional," bride Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters told People. "We definitely wanted it to be something that we could look back on and know that nothing was dated. We want to remember this day for the rest of our lives."
According to People, the ceremony was comprised of "elements from both American and South African cultures and traditions." Staying on theme, the colors the couple went with for their special day were green, gold, black, and white — all colors that are featured in the South African flag. After a 30-minute ceremony, the more than 200 guests in attendance were treated to American and South African cuisine that included "steak, mussels, assorted cheeses and pasta," per People. (Wow, we're really bummed out that our invitation got lost in the mail.)
The couple left decisions about the wedding cake to the wedding planner, but there reportedly was a Keto-friendly cheesecake for the groom's cake. "That way, Tim can stick to his diet," Nel-Peters said. How sweet!
Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters looked at tons of dresses for the big day
Holding court at La Paris Estate in Cape Town, Tim Tebow and Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters picked an absolutely stunning place to say their "I dos." However, what was even more stunning than the venue was the dress the bride wore down the aisle. Nel-Peters wowed in a custom gown from David's Bridal, and the icing on the cake was jewelry from Marion Rehwinkel Jewelry, via People.
While the former Miss Universe would have looked lovely in anything, apparently she went through about 50 dresses before landing on the one that made it to our Instagram feeds. "[I wanted] a little bit of the Royal family inspiration," she told People. "I mostly [was] looking around Pinterest. I also kept in mind what Tim would like in a wedding dress." In fact, she hoped he'd like the dress so much that there would be a waterworks display at the altar. "Tim and I always laugh and joke about this," she said. "I've told him that if he doesn't cry, I will turn around and walk down the aisle a second time!"
There's no word on whether or not Nel-Peters had to walk up and down the aisle multiple times, but if anyone missed out on the dress the first time, they were simply out of luck. The bride ended up switching things up for the reception. Donning another David's Bridal number, Nel-Peters sported a crystal-embellished gown with a plunging neckline to dance the night away with her new hubby.
Congratulations to the newlyweds!
