Whatever Happened To America's First Next Top Model?
Debuting in 2003 and hosted by supermodel Tyra Banks, America's Next Top Model quickly became a pop culture phenomenon. The world loved watching aspiring models fight for a career in the industry. Although the series stayed on the air for 12 years, one of its most famous contestants was the show's very first winner: Adrianne Curry.
The 21-year-old waitress was plucked from relative obscurity out of her hometown of Joliet, Ill. Though she failed to make it big in high fashion, Curry's reality TV career made her a household name, especially if your household watched The Surreal Life and My Fair Brady (Google it, kids!)
Curry, who will turn 34 in 2016, is now relegated to social media. Most folks probably wouldn't recognize her if she knocked on their front door. Let's take a gander at her Instagram pics to see how much she's changed and figure out what she's been up to lately.
All hail the king in the North
"Time for a delicious #GameofThrones pre show bbq! #HouseCurry" – June 2016
Being a 5'10" model doesn't mean you can't be a nerd. Curry's favorite movie is The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring, so it makes sense that she's also a big Game of Thrones fan (seriously, she's a big fan). On the day of the Season 6 series finale, Curry and her boyfriend did it up right. Bonus: her wicked sense of humor. Poor Tommen.
Even zits require a selfie
"It's zit cream. After over a year with me, 75% of the time he asks what's on my face" – June 2016
Zit cream selfies are all the rage on Instagram. It's a new beauty trend that Marie Claire is "not mad about it." Huge kudos to Curry for not pimping the product name. (We're looking at you, Kylie Jenner.)
This former model be like...
"Applying makeup in the car be like..." – June 2016
Not only can Curry work the mascara in the car like a pro, she's also down with all the latest memes and those trendy expressions the cool kids are using. Slay, girl, slay.
Gluten-free
"Hanging with my girl jenny....in the gluten free aisle" – May 2016
Scientific studies have shown that ghost wheat enters your body if you don't tell people you're gluten-free every five minutes, so Curry decided to let us all know. We're glad she did. Although, we think it's supposed to be a secret. We're a little confused, to be honest.
A really good day
"Good morning!!" – March 2016
Need a morning pick-me-up? Curry has you covered. With coffee and an inspirational message, anything is possible.
Be bad, eat good
"I'm gonna be bad....and eat Mexican food 5 days before a photo shoot! #munchies #modeling" – April 2016
Scroll through Curry's Instagram long enough, and you'll discover there's not much she loves more than food. She speaks for all of us in that regard. I don't know about you, but if I was planning to eat Mexican food for five days straight, I'd definitely want to share my good fortune with the world as well. Steak fajitas could end wars.
Better luck next time, Deadpool
Guns out
"Beefcake! Leg day break for a narcissist selfie. Internet narcissist selfie takers unite! Look at us! Behold our greatness! #fitness #legday" – March 2016
Curry eats a lot and works out a lot. It's truly the only way to live. What's amazing about this photo is that it contains all the elements for a great gym selfie: flashing the guns, Beats By Dre, and the People's Eyebrow. She hit the trifecta on this one. Respect.
Make love not war
"I got these after he came back from the range #makelovenotwar" – March 2016
In addition to her love of all things food, Curry is also a lover of all things love. The more sentimental and gushy the better. Case in point: these unexpected flowers from her man made her cry. Your move, Tom Hiddleston.
Harry Potter, anyone?
"Hey guys....just wonderin if you'd like to turn to page 394....#harrypotter" – April 2016
We don't know exactly what is on page 394 in those Hogwarts textbooks, but we're hoping it's a spell to make our skin look like this. You never know!
What's next?
According to her Twitter, Curry moved back to Los Angeles from Chicago in June 2016 with the help of her longtime boyfriend, actor Matthew Rhode.
An avid gamer and a cosplay fanatic, she routinely makes appearances at Comic-Cons around the country. She made news in 2014 at the San Diego Comic-Con, when she brought to light the blatant sexual harassment that happens at most conventions. She made even bigger news by beating up the guy at said Comic-Con who dared to try it with her. Note: she was dressed as Catwoman at the time.
Bottom line: though she may not be a member of Taylor Swift's model squad, Curry seems to be doing just fine living the life of a normal person. That fierce and outspoken personality viewers fell in love with on America's Next Top Model many moons ago is still strutting its stuff, albeit on a more inconspicuous level.
