Eminem's Daughter Has Grown Up To Be Gorgeous
What's Eminem's daughter doing today? The Real Slim Shady, rapper Eminem (also known as Marshall Mathers), made his whole family famous in his rhymes throughout the '90s and '00s — not always for the most flattering reasons. (Actually, almost never for flattering reasons.) But his daughter Hailie Mathers, whose baby voice you might remember from songs such as "Mockingbird," "'97 Bonnie and Clyde," and, naturally, "Hailie's Song," is all grown up.
Hailie, who entered the Guinness Book of World Records for being the "youngest R&B chart entrant" at the age of 6 years and 210 days, has always had a presence swerving in and out of her dad's albums, performing or being referenced on at least nine of his tracks to date. You would think that sort of contact with the music industry could warp a kid's brain. When you consider the unusual childhood she had with her famously volatile parents, it's shocking how down-to-earth this rap god's kid turned out to be.
So what can we expect from Hailie going forward? Is she eyeing the rap game, or does she plan to forge another path? Here's a rundown of the facts you need to know.
Eminem's daughter had an early life in rhyme
Whether it's the young man's fury of The Slim Shady LP or the confessional self-examination of Relapse, Eminem has never shied away from using his life to mine for lyrical material. Hailie Mathers has been a part of her dad's lyrics since birth, but while other people in Em's life have shown up as a target of rage, from former school bully D'Angelo Bailey to songstress Mariah Carey, Hailie has never been portrayed in any way but as the object of her father's undying affections. It's a delightful twist on the rapper's macabre persona, a humanizing element among all of the chainsaws and carnage.
While still obviously musical fiction, their relationship was never conveyed more poignantly than on the horrifying Slim Shady LP classic "97' Bonnie and Clyde," in which Eminem rides into the sunset with his daughter in the passenger seat and his ex's chopped-up body sinking to the bottom of a lake in their rear view. On a lighter note, at the end of The Eminem Show's "My Dad's Gone Crazy," Eminem showcases his most straightforwardly funny father-daughter collaboration by allowing a young Hailie to squeak the hook. The controversial rapper has demonstrated that he more than gets the joke. "I wouldn't let Hailie listen to me, neither," he raps on that track.
Hailie Mathers' real life versus rap life
Music is music, life is life, and the chasm in between means everything. According to Metro, Hailie Mathers was born to a then-unmarried Eminem and Kim Scott on Christmas 1995. Mom and dad would marry and divorce twice over the following decade, with custody of Hailie shared between them. Though Hailie is Eminem's only biological daughter, she has siblings that Eminem adopted: Alaina, the daughter of Scott's twin sister, and Whitney, Scott's daughter from a different relationship.
It's a complicated, messy situation, but one thing that's remained true the whole time is Eminem's devotion to Hailie. He can rant and rave about chopping off heads all day in his music, but the real measure of a man isn't in record sales. It's in how he treats the ones he loves, and when it comes to his relationship with his daughter, love's the only thing you see. And considering how devoted Eminem is to Hailie, it's no surprise they remained tight throughout the years and after she graduated from Michigan State University. Hailie confirmed the longevity sweet bond in a June 2018 interview with the Daily Mail, revealing when asked if they hang out often, "Of course, we are very close."
See? These two are BFFs for life.
Hailie Mathers was crowned Homecoming Queen
It might not make for good rap, but for what it's worth, Hailie Mathers' divorced parents seem to have gone over the moon to make sure their daughter had a down-to-earth and safe childhood. This is a particularly impressive feat, considering Em once rapped about graphically murdering the mother of his child in a track called "Kim" from 2000's The Marshall Mathers LP.
Of course, truth is more boring than fiction, but for our part, we're plenty happy knowing that Hailie didn't actually grow up around mayhem like that. As a matter of fact, at the end of her high school career, she named her parents the most influential people in her life. "My mother and father," she said, "have pushed me to be the person I am and have given me all the support to achieve what I have."
According to The Macomb Daily (via USA Today), when Hailie won the title of Homecoming Queen during her senior year, her mother was at her side watching on the field while her megastar father watched from inside the school, so as not to take away from Hailie's moment.
Eminem's daughter is stunning
Hailie Mathers would be turning heads even without the connection to her Grammy-winning dad because, simply put, she's gorgeous. Presenting exhibit A, the photo above. And perhaps Hailie is so stunning because she seems to always keep things simple, preferring to not overdo it with the latest trends. "Thinking about what I wanna do to my hair.. I haven't dyed it in 3+ years," she captioned a November 2019 shot, meaning Hailie spends more time flaunting her natural looks than getting makeovers at the salon. But on the occasions she does go all out, she kills it. Want some proof? Look no further than the social media guru's Ariana Grande costume for Halloween 2019, which earned praise from the "Thank U, Next" singer herself in the form of a reciprocal wedding ring emoji.
Though she doesn't appear hungry for fame, it's clear that Hailie is a camera-ready starlet who knows how to put a look together and make a winsome impression.
People just want to be Hailie Mathers
Being the kid of a famous person sometimes means that while you try to keep a low profile, you can expect some unscrupulous fakers to slip in to try to steal the spotlight. Twitter pretenders are a dime a dozen, and Hailie has had so many impostors that her dad's business partners have been known to step in and clear up confusion on behalf of the family.
A perfect example of this? Look no further than the time Hailie supposedly got into a feud with Taylor Swift in December 2012, "tweeting" at her, "Dear @taylorswift13, please stop wh**ing around with every guy you see. We all know you're only doing it so you can make another album. I am never, ever, everrrrr, listening to your music againnnn @taylorswift13. LIKE EVER." Um... this seems really random. And if you were scratching your head along with us, know that this questionable tweet didn't come from the real Hailie, as a source told E! News the account wasn't her own. Phew.
With such a famous family, it would be easy to believe Hailie would bask in the attention, but the real daughter of Slim Shady keeps her real life more low-key, so don't be fooled by all those fakers — all those other Miss Shadys are just imitating.
Hailie Mathers is a college grad
Eminem's complex lyrics and melodies have always suggested a high-functioning mind, and those smarts seem to run in the family. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Eminem's daughter Hailie Mathers graduated summa cum laude from Chippewa Valley High School, a public school in Clinton Township, Michigan, in 2014. Her grade point average was 3.9, and don't think she was just phoning it in to get those marks. In addition to receiving an Academic Excellence Award and a commendation from the department of psychology, Hailie split her time among a bundle of demanding extracurricular activities, like the National Honor Society, art club, and student council. She even made time for the volleyball team.
In case you were wondering, she didn't stray too far from home for college. [Delete: At the time of this writing] She attended Michigan State University in East Lansing, where she [delete: was reportedly] pursued studies in [delete: either] psychology. Not only did Hailie graduate "near the top of the class," as the Daily Mail put it, but she made the Dean's list. She described this accomplishment to the outlet as "whatever," but we definitely think it's a big deal. What a smarty pants.
Eminem's daughter may have a future as a cosmetic artist
It's no surprise that a celebrity's child may want to keep a low profile as they pursue their education, but there are signs that Hailie may be ready to stand up and show us all what she can do. An Instagram post from October 2016 highlighted the celebrity kid's skills as a cosmetic artist, designing part of the makeup look for a photoshoot for VIM Magazine at Michigan State University. It's proof that she can ply her skills with a lip liner on more faces than her own, and that's a talent that's likely to be in high demand, judging by the comments begging for tutorials on social media.
But as skilled as Hailie might be with a makeup brush, her career is seemingly still in flux. "People have been reaching out through [Instagram], as I don't have any [management]," she told the Daily Mail in June 2018. This surprising detail might have something to do with indecision on Hailie's part, as she revealed to the outlet about her future job, "I'm not sure yet, it's kind of up in the air, still."
No matter what Hailie ends up doing, we're sure it will be amazing.
Hailie Mathers knows her way around social media
Though still very reserved, Eminem's daughter has made steps toward engaging with the public on her own terms, quietly staking ground on Instagram in October 2016. She first started sharing charming flashes of her life on the social media platform under the moniker hailiescott1, sharing inspiring quotes, photography, and stunning fans with the occasional selfie. (She is also known to induce swag envy.)
For whatever reason, Hailie ended up changing her original Instagram handle to hailiejade for a bit of refresh. She amped up her content as a result, sharing everything from recipe ideas to fitness tips with her over a million followers. Eminem's daughter is also very active when it comes to responding to fans, as she often asks her followers questions in post captions. All in all, It appears Hailie is pretty savvy when it comes to marketing, giving us strong influencer vibes.
Talented and stunning, there's no telling what Hailie Mathers might have in store for us, whether it's the world of modeling, fashion, or something else entirely. Whatever she decides, if she wants to be in the spotlight, we'll be waiting and willing to watch.
Who is Evan McClintock?
Hailie Mathers found love while attending college. She reportedly met fellow student and seemingly nice guy Evan McClintock during her time at Michigan State University (MSU). As of this writing, the pair has dated for a couple of years. In June 2018, the two, who lived each another in Michigan, were photographed walking Hailie's adorable dog. "Marshall was just hitting the big time at the age Evan is now, making headlines for his shocking lyrics and toxic relationship with Kim," a source told the Daily Mail about the romance at the time. Continuing the comparison to Hailie's famous dad, the source added, "Evan studied economics and is a keen golfer, there's a huge difference!"
As for how Evan is perceived by Hailie's family? "Hailie's family have welcomed Evan, they are a fantastic young couple who love cosy nights in rather than hard partying," an insider shared. This is a big plus for dad Eminem, as he is supposedly "very approving" of the relationship.
Hailie doesn't often post about the two on social media, only doing so for special occasions. "Feeling extra lucky today," she captioned a shot of the pair celebrating St. Patrick's Day, while on her 21st birthday she gushed, "Couldn't have asked for a better 21st birthday celebration (or a better guy to have by my side)." Aww.
Eminem's daughter keeps it real
Considering Eminem's net worth is reportedly a whopping $230 million, you'd imagine Hailie Mathers would be living large, too. But in reality, Hailie is a grounded college grad who lives a very humble life in her native home of Michigan. "She now lives in her own modest four-bedroomed house in Detroit, Michigan, minutes from her family home and still visits her mom regularly, who raises half-siblings Whitney and Parker," the Daily Mail reported in June 2018.
Although it might seem like a big deal that Hailie is living near family (many college kids return home after graduating) it's interesting because she easily could have set up shop in spots like Los Angeles or New York, or any other popular stomping grounds for celebrity kids. Instead, Hailie is enjoying all Michigan has to offer. "Don't mind me- just enjoying my hot apple cider [and] the beautiful Michigan fall foliage!" she captioned an October 2019 shot at a farm. "I want to know where you are from! Are you experiencing fall right now too?!"
Hailie seems pretty relatable, right? From planting roots in Michigan near her fam to adventuring around her home state, the college grad is the definition of grounded.
