Sinead O'Connor Claims She's Not Suicidal, Celebrates 'Brexit' In Facebook Rant
Irish singer Sinead O'Connor took to Facebook to deny claims that she was suicidal and had threatened to jump off a Chicago-area bridge.
"It's bulls*** I jumped off a bridge," O'Connor, 49, said in the post on June 24, 2016. "Some stupid b**** up at [Irish police station] Swords Garda station decided she'd like to throw a bit of false and malicious gossip about is all."
O'Connor's post appeared the day after the Chicago Police Department reportedly received a call from Dublin police alleging that O'Connor had threatened suicide. "Sinead O'Connor called and said 'I'm on a bridge in Chicago and I'm going to jump,'" Irish authorities reportedly told the CPD, according to People. Chicago police subsequently "issued an all-call radio message" to be on the lookout for the troubled singer.
O'Connor told an entirely different story on Facebook, claiming she was way too happy about the "Brexit"—the United Kingdom's historic vote on June 23, 2016 to leave the European Union—to be suicidal. "IRELAND IS OFFICIALLY NO LONGER OWNED BY BRITAIN!!!!" O'Connor wrote in all caps. "CONGRATS TO EVERY MAN, WOMAN AND CHILD WHO EVER DIED FOR THE CAUSE OF IRISH FREEDOM, AND ALSO TO ALL THOSE INCLUDING MYSELF, WHO HAVE BEEN PERSECUTED MERCILESSLY BY THE IRISH SO CALLED FREE-STATE FOR HAVING DECLARED SUPPORT FOR SINN FÉIN AND THE REPUBLICAN MOVEMENT. OUR DAY HAS COME!!!!!!!"
O'Connor's mental health has been the subject of headlines for years. In May 2016, she was reported "missing suicidal" in a suburb of Chicago, only to be found by police hours later in an area hotel. The previous November, she posted a supposed suicide note to Facebook directed at her family and their "horrific set of betrayals." After receiving medical treatment for that incident, O'Connor posted another rant to Facebook in which she called her family "child stealing murderers." She wrote, "You're dead to me. You killed your mother. You stole my sons..."
