The Messy Truth About Kourtney Kardashian & Scott Disick
Few Hollywood relationships have been more head-scratching than the roller coaster romance between reality TV stars Kourtney Kardashian and Scott Disick. Let's chart the course of their past highs and lows and predict what may be in store for these two in the not-so-distant future.
Their relationship was a struggle from the start
The collective journey of Kardashian and Disick, who met in 2006, has been a bumpy ride from the get-go. One of the earliest signs of trouble came in 2009 when Kardashian discovered Disick had been texting a woman listed as "My Wife" in his phone. The debacle was chronicled for the world on the Keeping Up with the Kardashians reality show. Among the texts sent to the mystery woman: "I loved looking into your eyes last night...I wish I could come to L.A. for a week and not tell Kourt." According to People, those texts led to a brief split and trust issues that ostensibly continue to plague their relationship.
They've broken up countless times
Kardashian and Disick have been on-again-off-again so many times, even their own television network, E! can't keep up. One of their most memorable splits came in 2010 amid reports of Disick's excessive drinking and partying. His bad-boy behavior was featured prominently on Season 2 of the Kardashians' spin-off series, Kourtney and Khloe Take Miami, including an episode in which Disick unleashed a now-infamous violent outburst.
Disick's outrageous behavior took a toll on Kardashian, who grew concerned for the welfare of the couple's infant son, Mason. "You're not going to be around Mason while you're working on yourself," she said on the show. "There's not even a 1 percent chance...I can't do this anymore. I love Mason more than I love you." E! later reported that Disick was in rehab and receiving counseling for alcohol abuse and psychological issues.
His bad behavior continued
Kardashian and Disick kissed and made up following the spectacle in Miami. For awhile, their relationship appeared to be on the upswing, especially after they welcomed their second child, daughter Penelope, in July 2012.
Unfortunately, things took a turn for the worse in 2014 when Disick's drinking spiraled out of control. According to TMZ, Kardashian threw Disick out of their home in the Hamptons after a "nuclear" fight over his excessive partying. A few days later, he was hospitalized in the Hamptons for alcohol poisoning.
Around that time, Disick—who had been struggling to cope with the back-to-back deaths of his parents in late 2013 and early 2014—entered rehab again for substance abuse. His decision to clean up was featured on another Kardashian spin-off series, Kourtney & Khloe Take the Hamptons. "I'm sick of hearing myself talk about the problems I have that I don't fix," Disick said on camera. "And I've always known for a long time I did need to get some help to get to a better place."
In a shocking twist, Disick chose to leave rehab early, which put another thorn in his already messy connection to Kardashian.
Through it all, the duo somehow managed to create another child. Son Reign Aston was born in December 2014.
And then it hit a breaking point
If you thought it wasn't possible for Kardashian and Disick's relationship to get any worse, get a load of this:
Months after Disick checked into and quickly checked out of a rehab facility in Costa Rica, the troubled reality star was photographed partying on a yacht in the South of France with stylist and ex-girlfriend, Chloe Bartoli. Days later, the couple split amid allegations that he was cheating. At the time, sources for People said they feared that Disick had once again fallen off the wagon. "He's in a classic shame spiral right now. He knows he's screwing up, and he knows what he needs to do," sources said. "He has people telling him to go home and work things out, to stop this behavior, to repent and to move forward. But he's not doing it."
The fallout from Disick's European getaway was, of course, chronicled on Keeping Up with the Kardashians. Cameras caught Disick's tearful confession: "I made the worst decision I've ever made in my life."
He tried rehab...again
In October 2015, People confirmed that Disick had checked into rehab yet again—this time, at a "luxury drug and alcohol" facility in Malibu, Calif. A source for the magazine said Disick agreed to enter rehab "after receiving an ultimatum from Kardashian about being able to see their [three] kids." The source said, "He wants to make it stick this time because he has come close to losing everything."
But then he got caught partying...again
Any hopes that Disick had changed for the better were quickly dispelled in February 2016 when a source caught the troubled 32-year-old partying until 5 a.m. in New York City and described him as a "total mess."
Things got even messier the following month when he was spotted drinking and partying with Girls Gone Wild creator Joe Francis and a bunch of models in Mexico. Disick defended his behavior to People (via Cosmopolitan), saying, "The truth is I never lied and said that I was never going to have a beer again. I never said I was never going to have a cigarette again. I never lied and said I was never going to go to the beach again. I never lied and said I was not going to be around my friends and their girlfriends and girls and friends." He added that rehab had been helpful and he was "just trying to be responsible."
Old habits die hard ...
For all of their ups-and-downs, Kardashian and Disick have had trouble quitting each other for good. After the couple split in 2015, they were spotted a number of times together. Among their many sightings: a May 2016 trip to a painting class with daughter Penelope; a family meal in June 2016; and a trip to Mexico in November 2016.
Which might be one reason nobody was surprised when E! Online reported in December 2016 that, yup, they had officially gotten back together again. According to the report, Kardashian and Disick had actually reunited a few months prior, although they still weren't living together. "They are back together and giving their relationship a try again," a source said. "Scott's mellowed out a lot and hasn't been partying." Another source added they "both want to make it work for them and their kids."
The couple's kids were reportedly the driving force behind the reunion; subsequent reports from People and TMZ claimed that they had simply reunited as co-parents.
... And so does their drama
Suffice it to say, 2017 has already been a drama-filled year for Kardashian and Disick. In January, People reported that Kardashian had rekindled her flame with singer Justin Bieber, even though her main focus was still co-parenting with Disick. Then in May, she was linked to 23-year-old model Younes Bendjima amid reports that she was romantically done with Disick and wanted him to be a grown up about it.
Sadly for Disick, he allegedly fell back into his partying ways. In May, TMZ reported he was "drowning in alcohol" and needed rehab again. From there, Disick was spotted partying with numerous women, including Bella Thorne and Bieber's 18-year-old ex-girlfriend, Sofia Richie. (Thorne later denied that they were ever together intimately.) In fact, things got so bad that, at one point, Kardashian wouldn't allow him to see their kids until he cleaned up his act.
Although recent reports have alleged that Disick has been on week-plus-long benders and continues to drink, he and Kardashian reportedly made peace in July while on a trip to Nantucket. Will this latest peace offering last? Only time will tell.
