Stars Who Can't Stand Bradley Cooper
With the release of A Star Is Born, Bradley Cooper's career went stratospheric. In the award-winning movie, Cooper proved that he's a versatile performer who can sing as well as act, and that he's also a talent behind the camera. From his undeniable chemistry with co-star Lady Gaga, to the Oscar-winning duet he sings on the movie's soundtrack, the former Alias co-star endeared himself to a slew of new fans in the role. But despite his growing popularity, rumors of rifts with his co-stars and fellow celebrities continue to fester.
From comedians he worked with in The Hangover franchise, to disgruntled musicians who hoped for a cameo in his directorial debut, Cooper appears to have made a few enemies during his ascent to stardom. While his list of haters isn't all that long, not everyone is as enamored with the Oscar-nominee as it might first appear. Here are all of the stars who allegedly can't stand Bradley Cooper (or his kissing technique, at least).
Zach Galifianakis
The 2009 movie The Hangover catapulted Bradley Cooper to A-list status, and its subsequent sequels only helped to cement his place as Hollywood royalty. But despite starring alongside some well-liked comedians, Cooper and his co-stars apparently had some behind-the-scenes tensions that came to the surface when a promotional event for The Hangover 3 in Brazil went awry after Zach Galifianakis refused to attend. "The gossip behind the scenes is that there was a disagreement between the team" the night before the event, according Glamurama (via the Daily Mail). Although it's unclear what the disagreement was about, Glamurama also reported "the stars were three hours late, and branded Bradley a 'diva.'"
However, according to Page Six, the drama was actually down to a much simpler reason, which Warner Bros confirmed in a press release. Galifianakis is apparently "afraid of heights" and the movie's press conference was "on a peak near Brazil's famed Sugarloaf Mountain." An insider reportedly told Page Six that, "The only way to get up there was by cable car," so Galifianakis didn't personally appear, although he "called into the press conference to let participants know, and made a few jokes."
When coupled with Cooper's hilarious appearance on Galifianakis' Funny or Die series, Between Two Ferns, it seems as though any drama between the co-stars is probably just a joke. But who knows?
Barbra Streisand
While most people are pretty happy about the latest remake of A Star Is Born, one person was apparently mad about not being offered a part in the movie. According to a report in The Express, as the lead in the 1976 version of A Star Is Born, Barbra Streisand wanted a cameo in Bradley Cooper's update of the classic story, but the director, Cooper, was not receptive. Per a so-called "friend of Streisand," the superstar "feels offended no-one seemed to even want to acknowledge her, let alone take any advice."
However, speaking to The New York Times in October 2018, Streisand made it clear that Cooper had been in touch with her about the movie, and had even shown her a clip before its release. When asked if she'd seen the movie yet, Streisand replied, "I haven't seen it completed. Bradley [Cooper] did show me the opening. I was surprised by how similar it was to my version." While her initial comments could be construed as shade, Streisand noted some things she really liked about what she'd seen so far: "I loved how he used the drag bar. I thought that was new and interesting. What I've seen of the film I really liked." But we sadly might never know if the superstar is secretly salty about not scoring a role in the lauded remake.
Zoe Saldana
Bradley Cooper and Zoe Saldana dated on-and-off from 2011 to 2012, after meeting on the set of The Words. A source confirmed to E! News that the couple broke up just before New Year's Eve, seeing in 2013 separately. And even though they've worked together since on the Guardians of the Galaxy movies, it seems as though there's no love lost between them. Saldana moved on just months later, and was first spotted with her now-husband, Italian artist Marco Perego, in May 2013. Perego and Saldana quickly tied the knot in July 2013, and have since had three children together.
The reason it's thought that Cooper and Saldana's relationship ended badly is because the actress told Marie Claire in 2014, "I have been in relationships where a man has disrespected me, and I don't need to be friends with that man anymore. ...There's a reason why you're called an ex. ... You cross a line, you need to know that you're going to walk this earth knowing that there's an individual who has no respect for you." Granted, Saldana didn't specifically name Cooper as the abominable ex, but according to Us Weekly, the Avatar star was only romantically linked to one other person, Keith Britton, who she was with for 11 years prior to hooking up with Cooper. On top of that, Saladana's rep told the tab that she and Britton had "amicably separated" and "remain committed business partners as co-founders" of a business they ran together.
Jennifer Esposito
Jennifer Esposito and Bradley Cooper got engaged in October 2006, and their wedding took place in France just two months later on December 21, 2006. The stars were married for four short months, and there's still a lot of mystery surrounding their quick courtship. In a 2011 interview with Howard Stern (via E! News), Cooper called the marriage "just something that happened," and that he and Esposito ultimately figured out "it just wasn't right." Meanwhile, Esposito once described a certain relationship-gone-wrong (which was widely rumored to be about Cooper) in her book Jennifer's Way:
"I should have noticed the red flags from the beginning — actually, they were more like an entire marching band squad of red flags — but I ignored them ... He was funny, smart, cocky, arrogant, and a master manipulator. ... he also had a mean, cold side. His personality could flip on a dime ... Within days, my relationship hit an all-time low, and within a week, it was over. Abruptly, rudely, and with the exact callousness that I'd come to expect from him, but this time, I did nothing but agree to end it."
Neither performer ever confirmed who the excerpt is specifically about, although Esposito has said that she views the public's focus on that one particular passage as "an insult." However, the Crash star opened the can of worms again in 2019 when she commented her ex-husband's explosive chemistry with Lady Gaga at the Oscars, with her short and seemingly snide remark going viral.
Neko Case
American musician Neko Case is definitely not a fan of Bradley Cooper or his directorial debut, and she's not afraid to say so. In a series of tweets posted in September 2018, Case made it clear that she didn't like the newest version of A Star Is Born or its leading man, Cooper. Case is known for her solo music and her work with the band The New Pornographers, and much of her criticism with the Wedding Crashers star seems to be related to his portrayal of a musician in the movie. As she wrote on Twitter, "Bradley Cooper is the beige demon who makes sure very standard white dudes get to be in everything. He turns a scene to damp sugar quicksand with his treacley fingers and convinces you his vile incantations are him speaking some adorable French. I will fight him. Stand back."
As if her initial tweet wasn't strong enough, Case followed it up with the statement, "The trailer sent me off a very unreasonable cliff," which is pretty self-explanatory. As if that wasn't definitive enough, Case also tweeted, "I want to vomit into Bradley Cooper's dewey man-child eyes. F**k. Off." Clearly, Case and Cooper probably aren't going to be besties anytime soon.
Jennifer Lawrence
While Jennifer Lawrence and Bradley Cooper have worked together on several occasions and appear to be friends in real life, there's apparently one thing that she can't stand about him. During an appearance on BBC's The Graham Norton Show (via Hollywood Life) on May 23, 2013, Cooper revealed that, following an onscreen kiss, Lawrence told him, "You're a wet kisser." Cooper joked that her review of his kissing technique hurt his feelings explaining, "You don't want to hear that. It was not a compliment."
However, Lawrence and Cooper don't really seem to have any bad blood between them, having worked together on several movies including 2012's Silver Linings Playbook, 2013's American Hustle, 2014's Serena, and 2015's Joy. So, okay, maybe it's a bit of a stretch to say that Lawrence "can't stand" Cooper.
Beyond his messy make-out style, Cooper's only clear enemy on this list seems to be Neko Case, so until Zoe Saldana or Jennifer Esposito decide they want to start clearing up some long-standing rumors, it seems this Hollywood hunk is actually a relatively decent guy, too.
